Rosyolia

William had a fever and a few other probs earlier this week. He has now come up with a rash. I spoke to child health nurse (William is 8mnths old) she said he has rosyolia... and that preg woman and small kids should stay away.

2 questions

1. i did some reserch... it says that this is the human strain or herpes. Does this mean i have herpes (natural delivrie) and gave it to William ... I have never had any symptom and had the same partner for a long long time.

2. My mum is coming to visit for one week then she is going to see my pregnant sister... Could this go through my mum and harm her baby?

Thanks in advance

Manda x

Re: Rosyolia

I've always been told that roseola was a milder form of the measles (same family) and that those children that do get it will get the measles less severe because the immune system has already worked out part of the plan of attack.

I'm pretty sure both my sisters had it as babies and I was still around them all the time and never got it.  Also never got measles or chicken pox.

Re: Rosyolia

There are many strains of herpes and it can come from anyone really.  Any one that you kiss or come in contact with can give you just about any illness.  It just depends on wether it is air borne or needs body fluid.

I have a question, did the nurse actually see you baby or did you call and they said it over the phone?  I still wonder if he is teething as all the things that he has could be related to teething as well.  Is he on any antibiotics?  Could he have the rash due to an allergy?  Just wondering....I just don't want you worring about something that it may actually not be.  It would be safe for your mom to be near him as it is only contagious before he showed that he was sick....Here is a link that tells some good info about it....

Re: Rosyolia

roseola is part of the herpes family, but there's all different kinds of herpes, he could have caught it from anywhere, as there's different ways of transmitting, so most likely isn't you.

the bub should have had a fever for a few days before getting the rash and he woud have been most infectious from when the fever started they;'re still infectious while they've got the rash but not as much, so still best to keep kids away, it's a very common childhood disease and most kids before 3 would have had it, i know i had it when i was a kid :) roseola can sometimes lead to an ear infection so keep and eye out for that.

they don'tknow how it's spread, but it seems to only affect kids, so i'd keep him away from the granma just incase; i'm not sure why pregnant mm's shouldn't be incontact with it, it might be like german measles where it can affect the unborn baby but i'm not sure, so best not to chance it.

Re: Rosyolia

HI there, Not really sure what rosyolia is but if you are really worried I would just go to your doctor and ask a few ?'s  One of my kids had something when they were little it wasn't that name but it could be the same sort of thing and we were around my cousin who was pregnant a lot at that time and i went to the doctor and asked if it would be harmful and he just said she had to straight away get a blood test for it.  It all came up clear as she had immune to it.    Hope all is ok and your little boy isn't sick with it to bad.

Nikki xx
