Can you guys offer me some ideas. I have a wedding this weekend and have been trying to give our 5 1/2 month old a bottle but she wont take it - I have even tried the mag mag cup. She wont take it. I am trying her on S26 Gold - maybe its the formula. Can I try a straw? Can I try a bit of cows milk just for this night? Cheers
Neither of my boy liked bottles either, but I could get them to take Avent bottles if I really needed to (like when we had to go out & leave them with my mum). I ended up getting a Magmag straw cup & that worked a treat for both, the youngest still uses it & loves it at 18 months. Babies take to straws very easily because of their sucking reflex so it's certainly worth giving one a go - if you don't want to buy a straw cup until you know she will use one just try a cup and a straw for a start. Good luck!
i take care of my nephew an he is the same exclusivly breastfed and when i took care of him he wouldn't have a bar of the bottle, usually babies dont like formula because it isn't as sweet as breast milk, however you can get rice milk, its in the organic section or the long life milk section at woolies. he loves it and when i take care of him thats his substitute. Dont worry it has no dairy because you shouldn't give ur kids dairy untill 12 months but yeah that in a sippy cup worked a treat. i have had him out for 7 hours although he is on solids now so that helps, and that with his rice milk instead of his breastfeed an he's happy....
Try using the new Tommee Tippee wide neck bottle. Its the same shape as the breast and should make it easier for bub to switch. Just express enough milk for that night or more if you want and get your babysitter to give it in the bottle. And like everyone else said you must leave the room because bub can smell you around and will refuse the bottle.
The Tomme Tippee bottle did wonders for me.. and now my bub uses the avant bottle.
ohh i know what this is like,my daughter wouldnt take any bottle!! the only one i ended up having her take after spending so much money was wide neck nuk teats., No cows milk at this age,it will do more harm than good. Use a warm washer over your breast when expressing, that worked for me. She will take a bottle if your not there and if she doesnt she will when she is hungry. Myah wouldnt take any formular, she only wanted breast milk but i didnt try too hard on this.
In order for a child to take a bottle they have to be away from, get a friend to give it and they have to be really hungry. It will not work if mum is around.
Maybe you could try getting someone else to feed her. My son hated formula too at first and i was told to try to get someone else to feed him because they can smell the breastmilk on you. I had one time when my in-laws looked after my son so that me and my man could go out for the night and my son was unsettled, my MIL made him up a bottle and he took it straight away. So maybe try that.
Also what i had to do was snuggle up nice and close (like i would if i was breastfeeding) and start him off with the breast, for about 10 seconds, and then very very quickly swap to the bottle. It took me a couple of go's, but he got the point.
No cows milk untill she is 12 months old at least!, can you try expressing milk?, my son doesnt like s26 either, he will only drink breastmilk in a bottle.
Thanks for that but I have never been successful in expressing with any of my children. I sit down and it takes me about 15 minutes to express about 10 mils but I have plenty when she drinks from me?
Thanks guys - I have a lot of things to try over the next few nights - as you say if she is thirsty she will drink hopefully but the only thing is you worry about what they are doing when you should be enjoying yourself!!
