All these tips are great!  The only other thing I would add (as I am anaemic) is dark fruits - plums etc....  I got a list off the internet by looking up anaemia and iron rich foods.

i think every pregnant womens blood count goes down. i found red meat and leafy greens worked wonders. get ur dr to prescribe u (if he hasnt already) iron tablets or see ur local chemist for iron tabs u can take while preg.

hope everything works out for u and good luck

spinach, lean red meat (make sure it's cooked well), all the stock standard  ways to get more iron into your diet. milo is also great for it, it's got a fair bit of iron in it surprisingly. i ate heaps of it when i was pregnant lol.

i was also anaemic and low in iron when i was pregnant, but it's quite common for that to happen and i had a healthy bub.. i wouldn't worry too hard about it.

Re: How do i get my blood count up and increase my iron levels

I lost a lot of blood after I had my twins so I've been through this route before. In addition to iron pills, I was told by the hospital dietician to eat red meats and green leafy vegetables. And when I eat them, to eat the with citrus fruits (like oranges) or drink orange juice. The citrus fruits enhance the absorption of the iron in the food that you eat.

Liver is high in iron, but don't go this route because it has too much vitamin A which isn't good for pregnancy women.

Here is a link about anemia. http://www.uchospitals.edu/online-library/content=P00077  Toward the bottom there is a chart of how much iron is in certain food. As you can see, ground beef is 6th in the list having 3 milligram of iron. It's time to indulge in hamburgers and steaks! (well cook of course for safety).

A good iron supplement is Floravital which is  a liquid one and with a liquid there is less chance of getting constipated.  Some iron supps can clog you up.  Also you can have it with orange juice or the vit. c supps to aid absorbtion.  It is quite common for women to be low in iron during pregnancy.

Check out these foods high in iron and some more information.

Try going to the chemist and asking them for the iron and vit c tablets. They are in one tablet and without vit c your body wont absorbe the iron properly.

Funnily enough, Milo is an excellent source of iron (1 cup is half your RDI of iron) plus is extremely easily digested. Make it up with water, skim milk, full fat milk or soy depending on your preference. Also full of calcium which is great for your preggie body and growing baby. Guinness and stout are also great for getting your iron up although obviously you want to take it a bit easy being pregnant. Mushrooms are good too. Make sure your iron tablet has vitamin C as well as this aids absorbsion. Your dr might talk to you about iron injections if your iron becomes dangerously low but hopefully tablets and good diet will take care of it.
