Oven cleaner!! I'm a bit worried

The other day i cleaned my oven with MR Muscle! anyway it still smells like MR Muscle which is what I'm concerned about. how long is it supposed to smell like toxins? and how do i know I've wiped it all out properlyI'm really quite scared to cook anything in it. my oven if also a fan forced oven so its hard to wipe every surface which then also raises the question of "am i even supposed to clean a fan forced oven with the spray oven cleaners?"

That nappisan idea is a great idea!!!  I will try that next time as I'm with you samantha oven cleaners stink.  i use an odourless one but where they get odourless from beats me as it still toxin. What i did was i am lucky enough to be able to closed all doors to kitchen and opened window and turned oven on to get rid of the smell last time i cleaned the oven as i too was worried about the fumes and my little bub.

Hope these comments helped you

Re: Oven cleaner!! I'm a bit worried

I have only ever used Mr Muscle once and once only, for the very same reason.......You could try wiping out your oven with Vanilla Essense.

I find using the good old Napi San mixed  with water the best ever oven cleaner.....I soaked the wire racks in Napi San and hot water in the laundry sink for a couple of hours, rinse and then wipe  dry....NO scrubing.....and just wipe over the inside of the oven and wipe clean.

Cheers Janice

Re: Oven cleaner!! I'm a bit worried

Hi Samantha,

I had the same problem when I cleaned out my oven, I dont have a fan forced though, anyway I didnt like the smell either so I got a roasting tray and filled it with water and white vinegar and put the oven on high. Using the white vinegar it neautralised the smell as well as gave it another clean. I waited for an hour and then I turned it off. When the oven was cool I wiped it out with a damp cloth, getting the remaining remnance off.

White vinegar is an old and trusted method of cleaning as well as non toxic.

Good Luck

hey now dont quote me on this (google it just to make sure) but there are some great cleaning books out there for more chemicle free alternatives, i know i dont like washing the tub with harsh chems cause then bubs gets in there an i found a book which suggests vinigar and bicarb, it also says to use it on the microwave, so yeah im sure theres a similar thing for the oven.
