Any other parents with children that have oppositional defiant disorder (odd)

Hey, I have just found out today that bexleiy-rose 5 has been diagnosed with sleep apneia and oppositional defiant disorder. She is going for a ECG in two weeks. and was wondering if any other parents have a child with this disorder, or have gone for a ECG (what is the procedure for this) And was wondering how they cope and useful info, and ways to help a child that has odd.

thanking you

I feel for you and understand what you are going through. Oppositional defiant children may need a child behavior modification program to change their behavior.

ok first , the ECG is to check her heart to make sure its all functioning properly , they put little stickers on her chest and hook wires to it. It doesn't hurt in any way shape or form , and Im sure if you get a good technician they'll explain it to her and try to make it fun and relaxing. If her heart is racing she won't get a true reading.

ODD, my 14 yr old step son has. This is an iffy subject, some people believe it isn't a real disease at all but just an unruly child. ODD goes above and beyond the normal defiance that  other children show, and defiance is aimed at ANYONE in an authoratative posistion , parent/teacher/police/boss etc.. With our son we've found it easiest to try to stay away from trigger comments. We never demand he do or not do something , cause he will most deffinately defy us. A conversation can go like this : which will always have a bad outcome "Bexleiy-rose, go pick up your toys NOW" to the brain of an ODD child this is a demand, this sets they brain off and then the trouble begins, tantrums, screaming, becoming physical, or just sitting and refusing to move. The way I have found to avoid it as much as possible is to ask or suggest "Bexleiy-rose, can we get these toys picked up please/ how about you pick these toys up so you know where they are next time you'd like to play with them"

It's not always easy to ask and not demand things of our children exspecially after they've given us a long hard day already, but good luck finding what works for you. It's trial and error for the best of us.
