Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

Hi.

There seems to be a lot of 'wifes tales' about how to tell if you're having a boy or girl, and so I was keen to do a survey to test out the theories.

If you would like to participate please respond with answers to the following:

1. Did you have a Boy or Girl?

2. Did you have morning sickness early in the pregnancy?

3. Did you appear to carry more to the front, or more across?

4. Did you crave oranges/citrus or sweets such as chocolate or neither?

It will no doubt be interesting to see if the theories hold true!

Regards

Mum2007

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

Hi. I replied below but then thought it might be better to put this summary at the top!

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

Hi.

This survey is just for me as I'm pregnant again and have had some of the symptoms of morning sickness etc which I didn't have last time, and given I had a boy last time I'm thinking maybe this one is a girl!

It's been a great response to my question so thank you all for replying.

Here's a summary of the results:

32 Girls v's 27 Boys

If a boy:

64% had morning sickness

95% carried at the front

41% Savoury, 21% Fruit/Citrus, 31% Sweet, 7% Other cravings

If a girl:

62% had morning sickness

61% carried at the front

54% Savoury, 6% Fruit/Citrus, 35% Sweet,  6% other cravings

So although not statistically correct it would seem morning sickness has no bearing, boys tend to carry at the front more than girls, and boys may give you more fruit/citrus cravings.

But then again... it's hardly conclusive!

:-)

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

I had all boys. First one very bad morning sickness. Second not so severe. Third hardly any and they were close together so thought the body must have been getting used to the hormonal changes. Can't remember too many cravings. Corn flakes. I guess savory but my diet never really changed. I carried sort of like having a basketball on front for the first 2 and nice labours for labours that is. The third killed my back so he was lieing right on my backbone during labour and I was much wider and carrying more to the back. All wives tales I think. It is fun to guess, that's why I never found out what I was having each time until after birth.

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

First:  Boy, craved fudgesicles and potatoes, and loved the smell of crayons (which I'm told is due to an iron deficiency)  morning sickness until 12 weeks.  Carried out front.

Second:  Girl, potatoes, mild sickness for a few weeks, carried out front.

Third:  Boy, apples (8 a day!!!), 3 weeks sickness, out front.

Fourth:  Girl, potatoes and cheese, 3 weeks, out front.

Fifth:  Girl, potatoes and chocolate, 3 weeks, out front.

Sixth:  Boy, potatoes, peanut M&M's (500g and a sitting sometimes), 4 weeks sickness and carried out front.

They all looked like little basketballs.  What I was most interested in is that their weight at birth had no correlation to the sex of the baby or the relativity to the due date.  Interesting!

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey...

Thanks for giving us all the results... It was fun even tho it wasn't conclusive. I remember hearing somewhere that its the fella's sexual frequency that moreso determines the gender of babies. Someone must've done a study that found men who are more sexually active sire more girls. But that they don't determine gender b/c female ova are bigger than male ova. And most of us start out with more male than female ova in our ovaries... So I've got this mental picture of female eggs presenting a bigger target; easier for them taddies to hit. And maybe fellas who don't do 'it' as much have older taddies with better aim! So a proclivity for having sons may be a comforting sign; its not likely he's playing up.

An interesting point that could be indicative is that many religions have traditionally regarded male masturbation as a sin & most of those same religions also traditionally place more value on sons than daughters.. Did those early priests/gurus/prophets notice some correllation between male masturbation & female children?

I suspect the chinese (who have had a one child per couple legal policy now for at least 2 generations) may have been doing some (at least informal) research into herbs & methods for pre-selecting the gender of children. An understanding chinest herbalist/naturopath may have some idea of what can be done to pre-select a girl. They'd be careful not to advertise any findings tho, b/c traditional chinese culture still values boys over girls.. And they could end up with a whole generation of boys with not enuff girls to marry them!

I hope you get a girl this time; most of us Mums want at least one girl.

good luck

Rosalinda

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

1. A girl

2. No morning sickness at all. ( lucky  I guess)

3. Carried all around ( Most said I was all tummy, but i know better! You cannot possibly put 18kg on just on your tummy!)

4. Cravings...I ate meat for the first time in 15 years! Mind you, anything salty was also up there on my hit list! I had to restrain myself from ODing on salt!

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

1 girl, 3 boys.

Morning sickness with all of them, it got worse with each pregnancy as I got older, gender made no difference.

I carried the girl and one boy very to the front, one boy very deep back and heavy on my spine, and one kind of across nicely in the middle.

All my pregnancies I craved different things, but one thing stayed the same - an incredible intolerance to salt and meat, especially in the first half of the pregnancy. First pregnancy (girl) my cravings were mostly cream, icecream, and chocolate and was exactly the same with the last one (boy). Second pregnancy (boy) was mostly malt extract and tomato - not together though! and the third one (boy) was maple syrup and again - seperately - tomato.

If the wives tales are anything to go by, my kids are all going to end up transgender! LOL

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

I might also add that I THINK I am having a boy this time (I'll find out in a couple of weeks), but an interesting thing is a woman I had met a year ago saw me at a party and I had chopped off all my hair (myself) very very short at the back it was as short as a boys back and sides the front a bit longer, but I couldn't stop cutting it for about a week, it was a compulsion.  she had 2 boys and a girl and said your having a boy, and I said I hope so,why do you say, and she said, "you've had all your hair chopped off and I did that with both my boys, but with maddie i let it grow long" so there's another myth for you to bust. LOL.  I'll let you know if we're having a boy as soon as I know.  by the way with our daughter we couldn't come up with a single boys name we could agree on but had the girls name, this time it's the opposite, no girls names taking our fancy but have the boys name all picked out. (and I thought our daughter was a boy until we found out at 19 weeks)

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

I was told not to have soft serve icecream (like McFlurries) due to it containing lysteria whch can cause miscarriages or birth defects...........  I'm wondering if not everyone every where is told this?  I was told verbally the first time but given a brochure this time.........  Sorry off subject, just curious

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

Might be worth asking about it, you can't eat anything remotely nice whilst pregnant LOL.  Nothing smoked like Ham, bacon, muscles etc. (unless it has been heated to above 90 degree's C before your very eyes, just about, and no soft cheeses (fetta, camenbert etc) so no McFlurries or thick shakes from wendy's that are made with soft serve, this means the fat free choco ones mmmmmm, bugger!  LOL, (I was hanging for Cafe latte Macca's Thick Shake which you can get in kalgoorlie (only as far as I can tell... they also seem to be the only ones to sell whole roast chooks...?? weird)  anyway I was hanging for 10 months and I gave birth on Xmas day so I asked hubby to go and get me one when it was all over and they were Bleeping closed.... OH the horror and dissapointment LOL.

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

Yep my doctor told me this right away and it was in the hospital booklet that had all my details in it (for the midwife and obs checks)

Luckily (sort of) being allergic to dairy I wouldn't have eaten it anyway...

Re: Boy or Girl? My little survey... Can you help?

Well, my first pregnancy - all the old wive's tests, the cravings & the way I carried said a girl - everyone said I was having a girl and guess what - a boy!  I couldn't stomach dairies, loved salads and had all day morning sickness that was fairly mild.

My second, no-one had any idea what the baby would be - the way I carried was much the same but I showed a lot sooner.  The symptoms & feelings were far more intense a lot earlier - worse sickness, tiredness etc...  Hated the smell of red meat and went off it for months, craved eggs.  Had a girl.

Don't know if that helps any?
