Smelly Woo Woo......

Hi.

My son is 18months old and he is un-circumcised. In the last month or so he has had a little smell to his woo woo (that's what he calls his penis) I make sure i wash it well everyday but it still ends up with a little smell!

We have changed nappies in the last month or so aswell and they aren't as good as the ones we used to use so i'm changing back as soon as we have finished the pack.

Has anyone else had this problem at all? Could he have an infection?

And please, not to sound rude but i do not want to be "spoken" to by people that believe in circumcision as i do not believe in it (everyone has their own feelings on this topic) and i don't think this is why we are having the issue, i'm sure it's the brand of nappies im now using as this is when the smell started as the nappies aren't very absorbent.

Just wanting to know if other mums have had this problem happen?

Thank You All

Re: Smelly Woo Woo......

Hi there,

I am neither for nor against circumsing as I believe that it is a very personal choice . .  I agree with most comments in here about changing nappies BUT another thought may be bacteria . .  Sometimes bad bacteria can build up around the tip of the penis just under the foreskin . . . I would suggest that you take your little one to the doctor and have this checked out . .

Cheers Kellz

Re: Smelly Woo Woo......

Now i am a believer in circumcision but not the type of person to say "if he was circumcised then it wouldnt be an issue" , as i don't believe it's true.

His problem may be the nappies but it also may be that he is getting older, and as babies and children get older, their urine does become stronger and often more water is required to "dilute" the urine as such, to make it less acidic.

Perhaps try giving him some more fluids and see if it works. If not, and the change of nappies doesn't work, just take him to the doctor and see what happens.

Keep doing the amazing job that you are.

Re: Smelly Woo Woo......

Hi I agree with everyone else

But after doing all that, the problem persists have a look at his diet, does he have cordial or orange juice often?

Is his diet high in acid foods? Here is a list that I have put on my blog its a bit of a read but it outlines acid and alkaline foods. http://www.minti.com/members/likes2chat2/blog/374474/Vitamin-supplements-not-working-for-you/

Diet often contributes to certain smells in the body, have a look and see if this could help you with your son.

Good luck

Re: Smelly Woo Woo......

i agree with rukia and say change the nappy and see if the smell goes.

my little use to get  a smelly woo woo as well as butt. i found washing every change time and using creams not powder for his rash made the problem less smelly.  check with ur dr if ur really concerened just in case he does or is getting a infection.

make sure the skin is cleaned and dried througherly (sorry cant spell today) as that might also be the case.  was in my little ones case

hope everything works out for you and you find a solution

ps my little one isnt circumcised either i believe in it but  it wont change him as a person.

Re: Smelly Woo Woo......

My son goes thru the same thing every now and then.  I find that it's cause it stays a bit moist from the diaper so I give him air time every few days.  Also, when you clean it do you pull the sking back all the way or just a bit?  if you don't go all the way there may be a small amount of dirt and skin that can be there causing the smell.

Something else, does it smell fishy?  If it does it may actually be a bladder infection.  My daughter gets that kinda smell with her bladder infection and my MIL told me that is how you can tell when a child has one, cause of the smell.  Hope this helps!

Re: Smelly Woo Woo......

if its the nappies then change them and see what happens.

to be honest it really doesnt matter if a boy is cut or not as they can still get a smelly penis, specially if the nappies just let liquid sit by it.

what I would do is have a warm wash cloth and use that every time I changed him and change him more often with the cheaper nappies, then go back to either the old ones or try a different brand.

good luck
