Pregnant and horse riding

Hi all, do you think it's ok to go horse riding while pregnant? A friend of mine said that she went riding when pregnant, but I feel very uneasy about it. What to you think? Am I being over the top by not going or do you think it's reasonab;e to say no?

Personally,

I would wait until you have the baby to do this because there is a chance of danger...

My Aunty lost her baby from falling off her own horse, she rode him everyday. Never fell off him before and hasn't fallen off him since.

It's not a risk I'd be taking while pregnant

It goes alongt the same lines as water sports and rollercoasters... bad for pregnancy and could lead to miscarriage.

Honestly, its not a good idea to go horse riding while pregnant. Many specailist dr's will advise you to avoid contact sports and horse riding due the risk of a fall or other incident. How would you feel if something did happen because you went and you thought you shouldnt have??? guilty for ever best keep yourself and child safe as you can to avoid guilt.

Since you feel uneasy about it I would say it is reasonable to say no. I would, pregnant or not but then I am scared of horses and they can sense it believe me. I am happy exercising on the ground. Do what you feel, not your friend.

Re: Pregnant and horse riding

Hi there,

I have several friends that have continued to ride during their pregnancies and they had no problems at all . . The only time that I could see a problem was if this was something they had not done before as it isn't a good idea to try something new when pregnant . . .  Like Fi says below - as long as you trust the horse and don't fall off then everything should be fine . .

Cheers Kellz

I rode when I was pregnant with my first, the only risk really is falling off, you want a horse you trust and know as I'm sure you know they can be unpredictable, other then that there is no other reason why you can't x
