bed wetting mat - How to????

I live in cold wet Victoria, and I had three lots of sheets to wash this morning.  I can't go out and buy a new plastic, although I would like to, and I currently have one of those ones with the towelling top and plastic back, forcing me to wash and dry it each day also.

I used to make clothe nappies and still have some of the PUL (waterproof stuff) and other absorbent fabrics.

Does anyone know how to make a bed wetting mat??

It is worth asking.

Re: bed wetting mat - How to????

My daughter is nearly 3 and she still wears a nappy to bed to avoid this problem.... When my son was around the same age I started to get him out of bed around 11pm, just before I went to bed, to put him on the toilet for a wee. It always worked and he has NEVER ever wet the bed!  I think we were pretty lucky with him..........

Re: bed wetting mat - How to????

My 3yo was a champion, went dry from day one, then all of a sudden, a couple of weeks back he was constipated, now he is wetting sometimes before being gotten up to go to the toilet then again in the morning.  The 5 1/2 year old never went dry, then did in 10 days only had 2 accidents, now he has had 4 wet nights in a row.  I made the bed wetting mat and he refused to have it on.

I will try again tonight.

Thanks

Jodi

Re: bed wetting mat - How to????

Hi,

I have never used one of the mats you are talking about,  but if you wanna do it on the cheap i would suggest getting an old shower curtain and placing that between the mattress and sheet. It is a cheap alternative to the expensive matress protectors.

I hope this has helped you in some way

I know you said you cant go and buy a new plastic, but have you looked at coles? I assume they are Aust wide. I got one for my kids beds for $4 each.

but yeah as winnie said with the pul stuff. make just like you would a quilt but you can overlock the edge instead of binding it

Yes, we have coles, it is small but hopefully, fingers crossed they will have waterproofs.

Another three sets of bedding this morning, luckily not the doonas or pillows today.

Re: bed wetting mat - How to????

Crumbs, I am thinking how to put this into words. I used standard single bed sheet, cut down to 3ft on the long, then the waterpoof, then two layers of absorbant material. Firstly diamond quilt the absorbant layers, then attach to waterproof layer by folding over WP layer and hem the edge. You should be left with a bed mat square that is the width of the bed. Attach to your strip sheet, by sewing onto the hem of the square. You can then tuck this over the normal sheet in the best area for your childs sleeping position. LOL I dont think I explained that very well. You can make a few, and they dry very quickly when washed.

Any way some one might come up with a better idea, hehe. Luv Winnie.xxxx

Re: bed wetting mat - How to????

I kinda think that I understand. You have three bits:

The waterproof

The quilted absorbent layer

And a piece of sheet 3ft long and the full width of the original sheet so it can be tucked in.

Once you have these pieces you sew the qulted and waterproof layer together and then sew to the centre of the sheet bit so you can tuck it in?

Does that sound right?
