As the title asks.. ?? Is it possible? Austin is sick, he is coughing very badly and having difficulty breathing out. He is ok (i think) breathing in, but out he is all weezy and croaky. Today he hasnt said much and when he has, it sort of sounds like he is loosing his voice...
Has anyone every experienced this with a 1yr old before? If so, what is causing it and how can i help him?
Most definitely. My son at about 4-5 months lost her voice with all the screaming he usually did at that age. He would cry and only a little peep would come out, poor thing. Then at 18 months he got sick and lost his voice again from all the sore throught/coughing.
Whoops! and cough all consistent. I would just have it checked out. i just think that you can never be too careful with breathing difficulty and if it is asthma it can get worse quickly.
Sounds like croup to me, too. We were able to clear it up by running the shower and sitting in the bathroom with the door shut. While it can get awfully steamy in there, it's what you want. If that doesn't help, they can give him a steroid to help with the problem. Hope this helps, and that the child is better soon!
Damian recently lost his voice too, there is a nasty cold going around atm, I have had trouble breathing and a sore chest runny nose and lost of voice all seems like symptoms of it. If you have some Vicks Vapour rub, put it on his singlet it will help him breath a bit better, do not put it straight on his chest though as most young children get a reaction from it.
If you are that concerned though book him into the dr's or take him to the hospital.
Yes it is possible for a child Austins age to lose his voice. Funny thing though, there are times when we wish we could switch their voices off, but when they lose it because of a cold, all we want is to hear their precious little voice, but once they get it back again, we wish we could find that switch again!
You could help to ease it by keeping the humidity in your house up. A lot of the time the loss of the voice during a bout of a cold or flu can be caused by colder, drier air. We have a steam vaporizer that we put on at night so that we can breath easier and don't wake up all croaky. It is really working well to keep the humidity inside up as we have heaters on at night which can dry the air out.
The vaporizer will also help with his breathing as it helps to open the airways up. Who knows, if anyone in your house has a snoring issue, it might help to fix that too.
Mia and ella are like this and in really bad condition. They were spewing yesterday as they coughed so much. They can bearly breathe and are choked up alot.....
Cass, I also suggest that you get Austin checked out, at either a hospital, or after hours clinic.....sonds to me that he is really having some problems breathing. Better to be safe than sorry, especially with young ones.
yeah for sure. tobi is 9 months and recently had that horrible cold / flu with the runny nose and cough and stuff and he didnt speak at all for a few days and when he cried it sounded like hed lost his voice.... when i took him to the docs he needed antibiotics so id suggest u take austin off to see the doc to b on the safe side.
It is possible for Austin to loose his voice. He may just have a sore throat but from what you are describing about the wheezing when he is breathing out sounds like croup. Josh had a really bad case of it when he was about the same age, very scary. If Austin isn't getting any better it may be a good thing to get him checked out.
I would recommend you take him to the hospital or take him to an after hours doctor to get checked over. It may be asthma, bronchitis or croup, but if it isn't then at least you know. Once an asthma attack hits it can get bad very quickly and so can croup, I've been through both of them.
