nappy rash

13 month old baby Christain has the worst nappy rash I have ever seen!  There are blisters and his scrotum has even been bleeding.  Every nappy change is torture for the poor little boy!  He does between 6-8 poo's a day, of a fairly loose consistency.  All kinds of cream has been tried and stool samples have just been sent to the lab.  I've thought perhaps an intolerence to a food, but which one???

Re: nappy rash

With blisters, it can also be a yeast infection. I would call his doctor and describe the rash and see what he/she would prescribe. My dd, had gotten a yeast infection from antibiotics and the tell-tale sign when I called ehr doc was the blister like symptoms..He prescribed lotrimin and it worked quite well..

Good luck to you and your little one!

Re: nappy rash

Just a few months ago, my 12 month old son had similar issues and pin pointed the problem with the fresh milk he had started drinking.  We switched brands and watched it get better, but poor little guys, it's no fun doing this 6-8 times a day.

Good luck!

Re: nappy rash

take him off acidic foods orange juice tomatoes etc.keep his nappies off Jocky's training pants.let the air get to it.then try dactozin the fungal zinc and caster oil cream.if no other nappy cream will work this will as it's gone beyond Just nappy rash.putting the cream just on the jocks or nappy rather than straight onto the skin.

Re: nappy rash

id agree and say see your gp.

like the others said try cornflour as its more finer, i tried zinc and castor oil cream and it clearded my sons up big time.  i also found letting him kick around with out a nappy helped alot and so did washing him bottom every change time ( just a bowl of water and a cloth will do)

Re: nappy rash

Hi there,

OUCH - you poor little man . . .  I really agree that this really does sound like a food intolerance or an allergy, hopefully your GP can help you to sort that out . . .  In the meantime be very careful as to what you put on his sore bottom . .

I went through this when my daughter was younger and it did turn out to be allergies . .  When you are cleaning his bum its best to rinse his bottom clean with just warm water, try not to use any soaps etc. Dry his botton of with your hairdryer on a warm setting and them use only cornflour on his bottom . . .

Seems like a long way round for a nappy change but trust me, your son will thank you for it . .  Cornflour is the best natural thing that you can use on bubs poor sore bottom . .

I hope you can get things sorted out . . .

Cheers Kellz

Re: nappy rash

Did you recently just start cow's milk??? It coudl be that. Some kid stolerate the lactose in breatmilk and formulas but when switched to cow's milk full strength they react.

We used a combo of an anti fungal foot cream, maylox and A dn D ointment in equal parts. I put them in a littel baby food har shook them up and applied it to the bum. It worke dlike a charm.

Re: nappy rash

This used to happen to Amy everytime she had citrus fruit, fruit juice (even when it was very diluted) and tomatoes!

The only thing that helped was that I limited these foods to just a few times a week and to treat the nappy rash, I swear by Fullers Earth cream but please be warned that this contains peanut oil so if you suspect a food allery to nuts do not use before baby has been tested for food intolerances.

I hope bubbas bottom gets better soon. (Try to air said botty as much as poss)

Take care

Re: nappy rash

Poor little boy!  re the nappy rash - my son was very similar and would come up like that very quickly.  I found zinc & castor oil cream followed by cornflour - very cheap but it really worked.  To play with his diet you really need to talk to a dr or paediatrician, but my paed suggested either wheat or dairy to start with - he suggested taking one out of the diet for a week and seeing the effect, then trying the other.  If neither of those you would need to try an elimination diet, which needs to be done by a dietician.  Hope that helps!
