Child support ???

my sister recently made the very hard decision of letting her youngest daughter spend the weeks with her dad as she was having a very hard time at school as this was the only solution.

things are not perfect and my neice is only 10 but already get her periods. My sister still has to buy food, medicines. sanitory pads becuase the dad is either too lazy or too stingy.

now the Child Support Agency has sent her a lettersaying that she has to pay child support in the amount of $16.00 a week. Its not much but to my sister it is a lot. She works full time and still supports two other children as well as buying her own home. she doesn't get Centrelink payment anymore because she can't be bothered with all their drap although she is still entitled to recieve a part payment.

Anyway - I thought because she is still providing all essentials then this should cover her maintenence payments . What do you all think???

Also my neices dad does get centrelink payments for my neice but obviously isn't providing properly for her . .

Re: Child support ???

From my experience with child support she must keep every reciept for what she spends on her daughter it all counts towards the amount she has to pay. My ex keeps every single reciept (even birthday presents, when there are any) ) and it all counts to what he has to pay. Any more question please feel free to email me.

Re: Child support ???

No, unfortunately with the new changes that have come into place this sounds like the correct assessment. The new assessments now take BOTH parents income into account - but the cost of the child is not split equally. The cost is divided according to the percentage of care that each parent has and the percentage of income that each parent earns. Therefore, if your sister earns more money than her ex and has equal access to the child then she will still be more financially liable - apparantly..........

The worst thing she could have done is allow her daughter to spend more time with her father - why? especially is he is not taking care of her needs.. Is the situation irreversable?

Check out the website for CSA - Child Support Agency Australia. It has lots of useful info and can explain this situation a lot better.

Re: Child support ???

she should go to centrelink, i know you have to go through a lot crap but its money that would make hers and her childrens life better and make it easier on her. tell her to keep her recipts for all the stuff she buys  including if she has to pick her daughter up and phone calls she makes because it comes of child support my husband has done this for his child from a previous relationship that is what they told him to do. she should comtact them and they will send the paperwork out to her to fill in for this
