Re: lump after needle

Our girls have had this too.  Found that it happened with some nurses and not with others.  It can be caused by bubs moving or the nurse not quite getting the right spot on the muscle.

As for how to look after it?  If she is in pain with it, then paracetamol will help.  Warm baths and gentle massage help to get the blood circulation going which will help with the muscles bruising.

If she is like me, and reacts to the metal of needles, then it will happen all the time, if it doesn't, then it won't.

Our 18 month old ended up with a lump the size of my fist on both her legs with one lot of her needles, but when she had the next lot done, no lumps.  Then the next lot, massive lumps again because she had the same nurse for the 1st lot of needles mentioned, but not the 2nd.  Confused?  So am I! lol.

Re: lump after needle

I always get a lump after tetanus injections - apparently it's quite common with tetanus.  The lump took nearly a year to go away last time.  But apparently that's in the range of normal.

At my daughter's last immunisation (4 years old) she also reacted to the tetanus booster - her whole upper arm was swollen and red.  Again apparently that was in the range of normal.  Freaks you out a lot though.  Hers went down in about a week.

But if you're at all concerned, take her to the doctor.  At least you'll have the record of the reaction this time in case so they can be careful for next time.

Re: lump after needle

My children had lumps also after having their needles, took about 3 weeks to settle down. If it  isn't worrying her i wouldn't be to concerned but if for peace of mind maybe you should have it checked out if it has not disappeared in a few weeks.

Cheers Janice

Re: lump after needle

Both of mine had a lump after every needle.  The first couple of times I asked and was reassured it was ok and would go down in a week, well, it was a lot longer than that.  The first few days they were swollen and hot and painful, but then settled down to just being a lump for a few weeks - then they just disappeared.  I just left them and kept an eye on them.  Aside from that needles have not worried either of my kids - no temps, and hardly any tears...

hey !! Myah always gets lumps from her needles. They took over a week to go down too. If it gets bigger or starts to hurt her, maybe get her checked out. I was also told to massage the lumps gently....see how u go!!!

i hate the needles.... :(

Re: lump after needle

Anthony had one trn up after a needle too, can't remember which one it was tho'. If its not causing any problems for her and she has no other symptoms that are concerning I would just keep an eye on it. It should disappear in a couple of days.

We hate the jabs here too. Hope they didn't give her to much pain. and only one more lot to go until she is 4. yay.
