loosing a nail???

over a month ago now Anthony jammed his finger in the hinge side of our pantry. His finger went almost immediately purple and I knew he was gonna loose his fingernail. *gag*.

It has lifted heaps but because a little bit in the middle is still fine the nail won't lift and come off completely, he is playing with it trying to get it off and it is frustrating him heaps, it has lifted on both sides and most of across the top. He is even trying to bite (*gags again*) it off. What should I do???

He won't let me near it and won't leave a bandaide on?

Re: loosing a nail???

since your child has been frusterated with his finger nail you could try and soak it in warm water every so often and hope it lets go. As warm water softens our nails you could use that to your advantage by soaking his nail in warm water and allowing him to pull it off but thats just a thought also you could try cutting around the lifted nail and just leaving the bit still stuck on hope this helps its a real horrible situation to be in when you cant do much

Re: loosing a nail???

As a manicurist, for someone so young, I would suggest taking him to your GP. As was said before if the nail plate is damaged to badly the nail may not grow again proprerly and if it is not treated properly infection could still become an issue. A GP will be able to give you better advice anyway. Good luck

Re: loosing a nail???

cut back all the dead nail so moisture wont get trapped under it and cause a fungus, the attached will grow out but it takes a while, and if the nail plate has alot of damage the nail may not ever grow normal, depends on the amount of damage. Good luck
