Constant Blood nose

My girl, is always getting blood noses. No, its not nose picking. But most days she wakes up with a blood nose, and sometimes she'll get them at random times of the day. they can come from both sides of her nose. not just one particular side. Hubby had to have some sort of op when he was young, to stop his blood noses, but when i query the doc he said she'll be right. i wondered if it was heredtry. Well i just dont think its normal! I dont want her to go fopr an op, so i left it at that. Does anyone else have any idea??? has anyone else experiencced that??

Re: Constant Blood nose

My son had the same thing.  Ask for a referral to an ear nose and throat specialist.  Cauterization of surface blood vessels is a simple procedure with only a little discomfort to the child.  It is well worth it.

Re: Constant Blood nose

I had bleeding noses a lot as a kid - and to the point that they would go for hours and my parents would take me to the hospital.  The dr said for some reason the skin was not healing properly and I would grow out of it.  I did, and I don't think we did anything about it.  I would still talk to your dr again though as I woudl want to be sure it is not something to worry about.

Re: Constant Blood nose

AUS is coming up on Winter right???

The cold can make nasal passages dry and then they crack and bleed. Some kids are just more suspectable to it than others.

You can try using a humidifier in the room at night and in the house during the day to "moisten" the air. You can also use nasal sprays to "wet" the passages.

I would try that beofre any OR procedure.

Re: Constant Blood nose

Hi there. I had the same thing when i was 10 years old and got it fixed without the op. my mum took me to the doctor and i got a chemicle burn on the inside of the nose. Im not sure how it works and it sounds worse then it is. But he used what looked like a cotton tip, with a chemicle on it, up the nose and the nose blleds stopped. I get them every now and then as an adult but not to the extreme i did as a child. If you wonder if it hurts, well it does for a couple of seconds. Kind of like getting your ears peirced (sorry, only way i could explain it). but you will be left sneezing for the next 5 minutes stright as your nose tries to clear it out. I cant remember the name but if you mention it to your doc he might be able to tell you.

Re: Constant Blood nose

Hi there my son would also get blood noses alot when he was youger for no apparent reasopn. Her had to have his nose cortirised to prevent it happening as often and it worked. This is painless and is done under general anisthetic and they will stop the blood noses. I am not sure what causes it as they never said but if oyu want to know more about the op they can do try to google it and you will find out more information this may help put your mind ayt ease a bit.

My son now does not get blood noses only in the hot summer days occassionally.

Hope this has helped you

Michelle
