Ovulation tests????

Hi, just wondering about ovulation tests.

I have irregular periods, and just finished a course of provera, then clomid, to help me fall preggers. I dont know when i should expect to ovulate????  shold i assume a 28 day cycle??

If so then i should ovulate today or tomorrow. I have been doing ovulation tests for the past 5 days, and nothing yet though i have VERY extreme faint lines, so there fore ive been told to ignore them.

I take my test at 2pm everyday, should i expect a fade in or will it just bam be there one day (a positive ovulating line) and is it possible to start ovulating after a neg test then the nest day its neg again cause the ovulation hormone bits are all gone again???

Sorry if im not making sense, but hope you can help

Re: Ovulation tests????

Ask the Dr they should be able to tell  you how many days it takes for the clomid to "make" you ovulate. I can't rmemeber the # of days from when I took clomid, it's been too long....LOL

The clear Blue Easy Ovulation test kit is the best. It's computerized. It's quite pricey but well worth it IMHO....Someone gave us ours. You can buy them on e-bay for cheap.

Re: Ovulation tests????

I've never had to use ovulation tests, apparently my moodiness was enough for Les to know, that and the fact I chase him around like a cat on heat! lol.

What I do know is that ovulation occurs over about 3-6 days.  I have also picked up from somewhere that it is better to try and concieve around the end of ovulation.  This reduces the risk of ectopic pregnancies and has a higher success rate of conception.

I see some members increased their sexual activity while trying to concieve, clearly it worked for them, but it won't work for everyone.  Your partner needs a break so that his body can build up a nice sticky supply.  Sperm need to mature a little for the best conception results, so having sex about 2-3 times a week while trying to concieve is probably best, and I don't mean 2-3 times in a row, leave a 24 hour break between each.

I did ovulation charts with my first, and when my temp went up, that's when I really hounded Les, and we were having sex every night for about 4 nights.  We got a hit in our first month, which was  a huge surprise.  The chart helps you to map your ovulation by temperature, which is I believe a more reliable way than the tests.  Using both together though would give you a better idea of what is going on.

Re: Ovulation tests????

I too tried ovulation tests when trying to conceive this baby and they never worked for me. The best advice I had was to listen to my body and have more sex! I have had trouble with conceiving both of my children and all te time I was trying hard it never happened but as soon as I "gave up " trying and did what my body felt instinctively then I fell pregnant. Basically enjoy your sex life and try to bring it back to life just for the enjoyment of each other rather then the process of making a baby.

Re: Ovulation tests????

Hi, I had to take provera and and the clomid for my second child. I didn't have an ovulation tester. My gyno just told me to take clomid for 5 days and then commence activity. If you think about a normal cycle, ovulation occurs on about the 14th day. So if the period is day one of the cycle, wait 5 days start taking clomid for 5 days (that makes ten) then you should ovulate around 4 days after taking clomid. My husband and I didn;t take any chances when we used it - sex everyday no matter how exhausted!!!
