Re: chicken pocks for 1yr old

My son was 8 months old when he got chicken pox after his older sister had them she was 5 at the time. He coped very well he did have it pretty bad tho worst then his sister but he had other health issues at the time due to being a pre term baby (all My kids are pretermers) which the doctor thinks is why he got it so bad.

My youngest, 18months old, has just came out in them after being exposed over almost 3 weeks ago I'm praying he dont get it bad but only time will tell. But I see it as getting them while they are young is good as then it means no time off school, and its meant to be easier on the child... we will see

Re: chicken pocks for 1yr old

CPV is a virus that lodges in the respitatory system, causing a irritated or sore throat, a cough and a runny nose - slight temperature.  The blisters take b/w 10-21 days after being infected.

Carriers are infectious for 2 days before the rash becomes apparent and until the last blister drys up

DO NOT GIVE ASPRIN - can cause complications

DO NOT USE CAMINE LOTION - will dry the blisters on top and can exscaberate scarring

Use Solujel from the chemist to eliviate itching

My daughter has had CPV twice after being vaccinated! - She was excluded from childcare for about two weeks, she was unwell for a week or so - and I coped quite well - MIL looked after her for most of it

Re: chicken pocks for 1yr old

Im pretty sure it can take up to 20days for the sores to appear. Best way to see if she has come into contactw ith them is monitoring her temperature. I onlys ay this because most children get a temperature while they have chicken pox.

Iv'e had chicken pox twice. I know the first time i was 6months old. I had them that bad that i even had them in my mouth! My mum said it was hard because i wouldnt eat, well i couldnt actually, so that was a tough a time. The second time i had them i was 3 and my mum said it was alot more easier to manage as i was older and it wasnt as bad as the first time.

If she does have them, like i said watch her temperature, keep her nails short so she cant scratch, and dress her in lightw eight clothing so the sores dont become irritated. When i got itchy my mum used calomine  (sp? lotion.

I hope she hasnt caught them, its a bugger they hadnt told you before you arrived.

It was inconsiderate of a person to bring a child with Chickenpox to a social gathering unless of course the child was passed the incubation period, then you would have nothing to worry about. This is a link to some information about chickenpox, I hope it works.

I wish you and your baby well.

Re: chicken pocks for 1yr old

My 22 month old got them at the start of the summer. She wasnt too bad really - not nearly as bad as I was at 10! My older DD never caught them off her, so either she's already had them asymptomatically and is imune or they're not that easy to catch. If she hasnt got spots after 21 days you're home free. If she has eczema, or if she gets them inside her mouth, then you may have some problems - Karen-M's DD got them when she was starting on solids and went off solids for a while, I seem to recall (you could Minti-mail her?). I have heard of other babies getting them and annecdotally being told that they dont get them so badly when they're that young. Good luck!

Re: chicken pocks for 1yr old

incubation time is 7-10 days after being in contact.I would be upset too.but at least it will be done and over with and no risk to get them again, however contradiccting this it's a risk that if ababy gets them under 12 months they may get it again later in their childhood.the chicken pox are only contagious when the spots are weepy if they had scabbed up they usually not contagious.my son was 10 months when he got them and now is 7 1/2 and has not got them again.good luck hope this helps
