Child to be born with big head.....

The doctor told my GF,whom is 8 mnths pregnant, that our soon to be son is to be born with a big head.

Should I be worried???....Because, I am. She also has Toxemia Pregnancy (which is much has become better now that she is off her feet) and Little Brantley is to be born with Club Foot.

Will his head be larger than others in school...will he be unable to perform normal tasks???...the doctor, as far as i know..said it is normal.

Anyone, With any out put???

Re: Child to be born with big head.....

I hate it when doctors give you a tiny bit of information with no explanation!  Try and find a nurse or a friendly GP to explain what is really going on.

Is it possible that due to the circumstances of your GF pregnancy, your son is relatively small for his dates (in terms of weight/body size)?  My daughter was born prematurely and her head was very big in comparison to the size of her body, but she is perfectly OK.  Even now (14 months corrected) her height and weight are on the 10th percentile but her head circumference is over the 75th percentile.  I think it's quite common for babies with growth issues in other areas of their body to still have a normal (ie relatively large in comparison) head.

I hope all goes well with the birth of your son.

Re: Child to be born with big head.....

hi ya, pls dont worry, the way docs explain things these days can make you very scared, when i was pregnant with my daughter the docs told me she has got a big head, as they told my mother when she was pregnant with my older brother that he had a big head, it just means, ur g/friend will have to push a bit harder. ur sons head will b fine once hes born, i also read that ur baby is to b born with a club foot, my younger brother was born with 2 club feet, its amazing what hospitals can do, so pls try not to worry, if u would like to chat just mail me.

                                                    all the best, clare. x

Ulrasounds arent accurate. I was told there is no chance my little boy will reach 5pounds and that id have him at 37weeks, due to an umbilcal cord problem. My boy was 5days over due and weighed 6pound 4 ounces. There not always right. Your baby will be adorable no matter what!

Re: Child to be born with big head.....

Do you have contact with a midwife?  Maybe you can raise concerns with him/her and have things clarified.  It is likely the terminology of the doctor has elevated your concerns and you could do with some reassurance.  It sounds like you already have enough to deal with and I hope that the language of the midwife will interpret and bring clarity to you.

Peace

Re: Child to be born with big head.....

look docs who do this sorta stuff everyday forget that new parents can get upset or worried about what they say.

i was told a few times with giggles that my son had a big head and i started to get concerned that they were telling me my son would be freakishly mispropotioned haha

he was born with a head circumference of 37 cms which IS pretty big but also pretty normal and hes a perfect adoarable baby who looks normal to me?

Re: Child to be born with big head.....

is this info based on ultrasound?if so doctors cannot tell Exactly their true size!how many times i was told one thing concerning sizes (6 times!) of enatomy and when bub was born they were completely the opposite.but if you have great concerns raise it with the doc as they sometimes forget their manners and get you worried for nothing.good luck

Re: Child to be born with big head.....

There is nothing to be worried about! Babies are born with varying head sizes - usually between 32 - 38 cm circumferance for full term babies. Your doctor probably meant that the head was at the larger end of the range of normal. This can be of some importance for your girlfriend because it means that she has to push an even larger object through an already small space!! But, your baby will cetainly be a normal perfect little bundle! Best wishes!
