Hi, go and speak to your local pharmacist about this. They are really good at giving basic medical advice. If they say no then you should definately make an appointment with your GP or peadiatrician. The best education in these situations are from medical experts. Allergies are not something you should ignore, play down or self medicate. It's dangerous in all those situations. Please get medical advice asap.

I was under the impression that you couldn't give antihystamines to kids under 2 years because of the associated risk of SIDS. In saying that  I would speak to a pharmacisit first to get more info. They have peadiatric Zyrtec but i'm not sure what the minimum age is. good luck xox

For hayfever type allergies - ie sneezing, runny nose etc?  The best thing is to try & avoid known triggers eg, grass, pollen, animals.  You can also use saline nasal sprays.  Also think if you have introduced any new solids as these can exacerbate hayfever.  For me personally I have found drinking cows milk means I will get hayfever the next day.   Keep a diary of where you go & what they do, and when symptoms appear.

What sort of allergy problems?

As pp'd - I wouldn't give any child that young any medication that was not specifically designed for babies, unless it was directed under script.

From time to time - under medical supervision - adult medication may be given.  Extream care is always required as it is very easy to OD a child.

I would not give my infant anything without seeing the doctor first. I know that if they have severe allergies, they can get a prescription for an antihistamine such as Phenergan. Most antihistamines are not recommended for children under 12 months of age. my daughter was about 7 months old and had a bad reaction to ant bites. Her whole face swole up. The doctor was VERY hesitant to give her anything.See your doctorASAP- it may be worth while getting a referral to a paediatrician for an assessment of her allergies.

As far as I know, you cannot give Zyrtec to a child under the age of 12 years.  There are baby and toddler brands of antihistamine out there, but you need to talk to your pharmacist before giving it to them.
