straining during bowel movements

is it normal for a 12 week old to strain and get red in the face while doing a bowel movement?

Unless you have a reason to believe he is constipated, then yes, it seems perfectly normal to me. Mine have been perfectly loose but pulled the best faces at that age when about to fill their nappies. I have some great photos too!

 If your babies bowel movement is hard it sounds like they are constipated and it may be wise to see your local doctor and in between now and seeing your doctor try some juice or more tepid water.

It may be that your baby is getting too much iron.  My daughter went through that and we had to put her on the low iron formula to help her pass the bowels.

normal,but if his poos are hard give him a little bit of prune juice in between feeds,he may no like it but if he gets just a few sips it works wonders.or even a bit of  cooled boiled water

It is possible that the little one is constipated I would take them to your GP just to be sure if nothing else it will ease your mind.
