I have a daughter who started kindy this year not knowing any  kids but only my neice and nephews,which are older than her,i told the teachers to get her involved in activities with others...some days she didn't want to play with anyone and was enjoying discovering things for herself in the play area..my daughter has't made friends yet,but the teacher said they don't really make friends till about 4years onwards..so i'm getting to know a few kids in the class when i take her..it just takes time,as long as he enjoys going to playgroup..my daughter at play group(way before starting kindy) was the same she only liked the toys,didnt want to dance or sing was happy playing..your son will get there,it takes time to get use to a new face around him..hope all goes well

my daughter had the same problem. her carers were concerned she was isolating herself, but she just wanted her own space and time to herself.

don't stress,he will interact with other kids when he is ready.

If he's new to playgroup he will still be "finding his feet" and be getting used to th enew environment.Don't worry,he will soon settle down.Kids  at this age just play along side each other anyway.

How old is he? chn dont really form friendships till around the age of 3. until then they will play along side each other and sometimes talk but most of there play will be alone. there is nothing to worry about, try not to push him to play with others he will do it in his own time, he is prob still trying to find his feet in this new setting.
