Re: baby with tummy bug

Give him little amounts of milk, substitute for water and pureed mixed vegies mixed with bread, or rice, even banana's are great (mash it with bread crumbs or farax). If they can keep it down for an hour or so they are getting a fair bit of nutrition from it. However something you may have started eating/ drinking recently may not be sitting with him properly, or it could be simply a hard teething period. Don't worry too much about it though unless it gets very serious, sightly weight loss etc. Patience is a general key to most baby - toddler drama's.

Re: baby with tummy bug

I had this happen when my youngest was 15mths old. I kept BF as much as possible, also watered down juice or lemonade syringe fed in little doses helps.

Oh and the hydralite iceblocks are fantastic.

Don't stress too much about getting food in it's the fluid that's important. Clear soups are good as well but the BM will be the biggest help.

Re: baby with tummy bug

Hydralyte type drinks are great... try them but also keep your breastfeeding up... sounds like he may have a gastro type bug so the spewing/diahorea may last a few days ... I wouldn't stress too much about food at this stage (wait until the vomiting settles at least) he problaby doesn't really want to eat to much at the moment anyhow (imagine how you would feel)... most importantly keep his fluids up (you need to give him more than he is bringing up to keep in top of it)>. its great that you are seeing the doc again.. also keep an eye on his nappies (if he starts weeing less or it is very strong in smell/ and is very yellow they may be early signs of dehydration and you might need the doc to see him again to avoid dehydration getting worse..

Re: baby with tummy bug

Go to the chemist and get something called hydralyte.  It is a liquid and comes in tubes that you can freeze.  It is designed to replace all the goodness that is lost through vomiting and diorreah (sp).

Not sure how to stop the vomiting etc...  It is good that you are going back to see the Doctor.  Milk is probably not best at this stage just try some water and dry biscuits or toast and vegemite.

Re: baby with tummy bug

Hi,

My children are a little older now, but green tea helps with vomiting, a teaspoon of brandy with it works fantastic (recommended by my homeopath) but i do not think you could give this to a 1 year old. Yes electrolytes are great, but some have chemical sugars in them, so i would say read the label first.       It is so important to keep the fluid levels up at this age, even if they spew it back up.

Re: baby with tummy bug

i dont have advice on how to stop him from vomiting but i do know of a drink you can give children that helps get their electrolytes up (electrolytes are what make you feel dehydryated) even if you give him a little bit at a time see if it helps.

sorry im not much help but this electrolyte drink will help him feel a little better you can get it from  a chemist. see if he will eat a little dry bread.

good luck
