Insect Repellant for 6 month olds

Hi! We're planning a camping trip at the end of October.  Anyone know of a good insect repellant for babies (from 6 months)?  Most common brands seem to be for age 12 months.  Thanks, Bel

Hi there, I live in Darwin and always have troubles with mozziesin the wet season. When my kids were babies I would order insect repellant from Avon. They have a repelant that doesn't have all the nasty chemicals. I think it was about $8 a bottle or sometimes 2 for $10. I always had one at home and one in the baby bag.

Lucky you for finding the time to go away camping. Insect repellents for children under 12 months are not usually recommended because of  the contact with their senstive skin. We used to spray their clothes, hats etc. Hope you have a great trip!!!

i use a natural produst called scatterbugs, you buy it from healthfood stores. Its better that aerogaurd (i never used aerogaurd on bub) It does cost $14.95 but it last so long and Im still on my first bottle and jade is 14mths plus i use it too. Enjoy camping

buy citroneela candles and place them in the vacinity of the baby and that will help to keep bugs away

Re: Insect Repellant for 6 month olds

I would definately ask a trusted pharmacist as I've always been told you don't put insect repellant on such young ones.  Are you going camping near the water where there will be lots of mossies and sandflies?  Can you get around putting the repellant on the baby's skin by having a camp fire going nearby where the smoke can repell the insects?  Or try those outdoor zappers.  You can also buy "bug off" wristbands.  I work at a camping store and have seen them there however I have never actually tried them so I don't know if they actually work, or if they are safe for babies.  Whenever we've gone camping, the insects aren't really out until dark and then we've got the smoke detering them anyway.
