I would not worry about this mate, I've had 6 kids and all are fine and I sleep in ay possition - as long as you don't sleep on your stomach all shall be well!
I don't think it will cause any harm, but you will find that you start to wake often and change position. The one thing I can tell you is that they warn you about sleep deprivation after you've had the baby but they dont tell you about the sleep deprivation while you're pregnant. Sleeping on your back, apparently, restricts the blood flow to the baby that is why they recommend not doing it. it is recommended to sleep on your left side because it takes pressure of something (I cant remember what it was).
I understand that it's possible when pregnant to pass out when you're flat on your back - one of my friends did this in the dentists chair when expecting DS2, and she later trained as a pregnancy aerobics instructor, so I'm sure it wasnt just fear of the dentist LOL!
I have read the same thing, but sometimes have to lay on my back as it is the only way I can get comfortable - although I try not to do it too often. I'm pretty sure that I have read that while it can effect some women and babies it doesn't all. I also recall reading somewhere it is ok if you are on a 10 degree incline or more.
Congratulations on your pregnancy & I hope all goes well!
I am in my second pregnancy and also wake up on my back sometimes. It's not going to hurt your baby just make sure you roll on to your side when you realise. Don't panic, one of my friends said she slept on her back her entire pregnancy because it was the only comfortable position she could get into. I would avoid it if possible but don't wory if it happens I'm sure all pregnant women wake up on thier back at some point.
sleepin on your back while pregnant puts a lot of pressure on your lungs, it also can cause your baby to turn posteria (sorry cant spell) which is the baby's spine is on your spine and causes severe back pain during lobour and if you deliver laying down bub can get stuck on the tail bone. I had three posteria births. My sister had one too and my niece had to be delivered by forceps.
Not trying to be scary but hope i answered you question.
hi there, never heard of this! i slept on my back when i was pregnant, and been told i couldn't sleep on my sides or i may squash the baby..that what i was told and it stuck in my head when i slept, as it put me off and i wouldn't have liked anything to happen....i'd say it's fine to sleep on your back...just like lying on the couch is the same..if you confused or really concerned..ask you midwife or gp..
they say to sleep on your left side, but I slept on my back with my first and was able to sleep on my tummy till 20 weeks with the 2nd then on my back, they both turned out fine??
They say you shouldn't because it's effects the blood flow and can effect you and your bub. But just prop yourself up a little on a pillow if your concerned, and it's only really a problem if you start to feel dizzy or faint otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.
See your doctor if your really concerned, but I think if your sleeping and you roll onto your back, your body will wake you or change positions during sleep if there is a real problem. Good luck, happy sleeping
Yeah from what I have read or heard is it is due to the blood flow to the placenta, Im not 100% but I think you are meant to sleep on the left? but I didnt know about this til my 2nd pregnancy and even when I did I got the sides wrong, so Im sure you and bub will be fine.
