Baby Names

Anyone got any ideas on unusual baby names?

I have a Hayley, Natalie & Jacob.... Need another name! Hopefully something that will 'match' but isn't too common.

So far I have Maddison for a girl, but are stuck for boys!!!

Re: Baby Names

I was determied to have children with names that wouldn't have 2 in their class and yet not be weird. My first, Emily, was uncommon until that year and ever since, lol, so she has 2 other Emilys in her class...

My second daughter is Kylara (prounced like sky - Ky - lara) and my son is Matari (aboriginal for man) - pretty safe they won't have classmates with the same names! ALthough Kyara went to kinder with Chiara and Kara...

Had Matari been a girl, she would have been Mincarlie or Carlie...

Good luck:)

Re: Baby Names

My husband and I had a similar problem. As I'm a teacher I wanted a name that was different enough to not encounter many others (didn't want bad memories attached to a name!), but not that unusual that our child would hate it and be picked on.

Our final choice for our girl was Lorelei Rose, but we also liked Charisma, Anastasia, Aurianne and Savanna.

For boys it was harder but we short-listed Perrin (my favourite 'cos I liked the nickname Perry!), Xavier, Elijah or Eli, Oscar and Oliver.

Re: Baby Names

Well, my brother is going to be a dad in 4 days and if its a boy he wants Evan if its a girl Amelia. There nice names.

For a girl you could also use my name Tegan (pronounced Teegan)

For a boy what about Alfie or Biaram (pronounced Byram)

Re: Baby Names

No offense intended, but why do you want to give your children "UNUSUAL" names which may lead to more teasing and ridicule in the school ground and make their whole life a constant flow of having to answer questions like "how unusual, how do you spell that?"

I personally hated having an "unusual" name myself, and chose to name my 2 children with "usual" names which I Iiked and that hopefully they will like too.

Having said that, I do like some of the more "uncommon" but not "unusual" names I have heard lately, such as Noah, Taylor, Connor, Callum (for boys and as you asked for boys I wont list a heap of girls names here). I quite like some of the "old fashioned" names that are coming back into vogue at the moment. I've even heard for people naming their boy Levi, and Isaac.

All the best with your family.

BTW JoJo is not my real name, but a nickname I use as I hate my real name! (Still)

;-)

Re: Baby Names

I would just like to point out that Noah and callum and the previouse names mentioned have been on the top ten most common boys names for the last several years.

What about Seth (also on list) or Jai or Kai.

I have an uncomon name and enjoy it. I attempted to give my children uncommon names but now they are becoming popular.

Re: Baby Names

Hi there,

We named our little boy Tao. (Pron: Tayo) We certainly get " Oh, that's unusual!"  It was a toss up between Tao & Baxter, but when he was born, it was decided pretty quick.

Take care

Re: Baby Names

I think the feminine version of Aidan is Aida? I used to know a girl called Aida when I was little, so it is quite an old name that hasnt been used for ages...

Or maybe Aidelle...

All the best with your little girl

Re: Baby Names

hi   when i was pregnant we found out i was having a boy.  We had nine months to pick out a name and still did not have one when he was born.  My husband took one look at him and said i like the name Logan.  We found this was not a common name and get lots of comments on how people love the name.

Good luck

Re: Baby Names

Actually, using your maiden name as a name is a quite nice way of keeping the family history link going.

My sister-in-law named one of their sons Callum as her maiden name was McCallum.

Maybe you could adjust it to suit as she did when deleting the Mc...

Just a thought.

All the best xox

Re: Baby Names

I have three boys and it is hard to find appropriate names. We call our Cody, Brock and Jacob. My partner picked Cody, I picked Brock and we have always wanted a Jacob. There are heaps of Cody's and Jacob's but not too many Brock's.

Re: Baby Names

The three which I have heard used only once amongst my friends are Jonas, Josiah and Felix.

Speaking as someone who has spent my life spelling my unusually-spelt name to everyone, please consider chosing a simple spelling if you have a choice of two - its such a drag (and now I have to spell my surname too - aaargh)!

Re: Baby Names

There are some fantastic replies below here - alternatively you could look up online - it does take time to trawl through baby name sites, but some are really good and provide names with certain meanings or heritage which can be really interesting and you can be inspired with something different.  I was stumped for boy names before E was born and trawled many sites which I found really helpful - just Google a search for baby names

Peace

I think our DS name is different. He is named Jedd after his Father. I have only met 2 other Jedd's and their name was actaully Jeddidiah. They were called Jed (with one D) for short.

DS name is just Jedd...2 D's and not shortened....LOL

Re: Baby Names

Hi there,

My daughters names are Maddison & Teirabella (I made this up, I always loved Isabella but found it was becoming more common), I am also pregnant with another girl whom we are naming Lilliana. The boys names we had picked out were: Alexander, Lachlan, Beaudean, Elijah. I also like my nephews names, Jayden, Ethan & Bailey.

Because my name was short (Traci) I wanted long names that could be shortened and still be nice.

Good luck with the search, I would love to know what you come up with!!

Trik :o)

Re: Baby Names

I think in trying to "match" the names you already said, what about Felicity or Jillian?  They aren't very common these days but are beautiful and flow with the other names you have.

For boys Walker or Jaiman/Jaimen.

Re: Baby Names

A friend's son was quite ill when he was born and they spent a lot of time driving back and forth to the hospital.  They named him Miles - an excellent name with meaning.  As a former Brownie leader I can say that unusual names and strange spellings are a challenge to deal with.  Consider the time of birth as well - daughter's nephew was born Oct 28 and they named him Jack!
