Re: whats better

I"m wondering if you can have your tubes tied after only two children? My partner and i also only want two but i was told that to get your tubes tied you had to be over a certain age or have three or more kids. Maybe you should ask a doctor before making a choice?

Re: whats better

Well i am unsure about your situation but I had my tubes done after baby number 5 as i had 4 children in 4 years and my partner only has to look at me and I am pregnant. I think a vasectomy is the best option as it is easier to reverse.but in my situation the pill never worked and I needed some time to be me and not be pregnant. But now I am due to have a partial Hysterectomy and am having my remaining tube untied to allow me the option of fulfilling my dream of 6 children, but I have been advised that it may never happen.

Re: whats better

My understanding is that a vasectomy is easier to undo. And is comparatively minor surgery with significantly less chances of complication/infection. Menfolk tend to be unwilling... Not sure if its simple irresponsibility or if its some irratioinal fear that they will have less libido...

I hope he comes around!

a vasectomy is the safer option, its reversible, cheaper, and women have been known to fall pregnant after having their tubes tied. if neither of you want the surgery, you could try other options, such as the Implanon contraceptive bar, which is an implant that lasts for 3 years, and is much cheaper and safer

My partner and I are going to do both! We have six kids now and I get pregnant just thinking about it. I just want to cover it from all angles and yes our TV does work!

Re: whats better

when i first went on the waiting list for a tubal my doctor said that it was only day surgery done by laperoscopy (probably spelled it wrong)with very little scaring But it is invasive, but in the end hun the choice is yours

Re: whats better

Is that how it is done now? Do they go through your belly button?  A friend of mine had her tubes tied quite a few years ago and she said it was painful and she stayed in hospital overnight.

Is it still more invasive than a vasesectomy? I would asume so as you still have to go into the body.

yes they go through the belly button. But i didnt get that option i had a c section when i had the last one so they tied them while i was in there.

Re: whats better

A vasectomy is just a day procedure and minimal pain too. I know a few guys who have had them and they were pretty much fine the next day even able to have sex!

Getting your tubes tied will require a few days stay in the hospital and considerable pain. Your husband may have to take time off work or arrange someone to take care of the children you already have while you are incapacitated.

Re: whats better

Hi. As I just had my fourth child 6 months ago and am quite nervous about falling pregnant again, this came up with my fiance` and myself. Any doctor would recomend the man to have the vasectomy as it is only a day surgery procedure where as getting your tubes tied is an invasive surgery with more risks. My fiance` did not want to get it done either so I just said "fine then I will go and have full sugery just so you dont get yourself too scared" and he has since some round now :) Good luck  :)

Re: whats better

This is what I have learnt, but I'm no health care professional, so I may have been given the wrong information.  You should check with your own doctors before you make your final decision however.

I've been told that it's so much safer for the man to have the vasectomy.  It's also reversible in the unlikely but possible event that you want another one a few years down the track.  However, the con of the man having the vasectomy is that it's not 100% fool-proof and there have been rare cases where the couple has had more "unwanted" children.  Unwanted in the sense they were not planned, but they were born and still loved just as much.  I have never heard of a woman falling pregnant after having her tubes tied, but like I said, I'm not in the health care world so I don't know all the cases and it still may happen.

Re: whats better

i had my tubes tied after my sixth only because i had c section, its less invasive for the man to have a vasectomy but i know four women who have had babies after having their tubes tied, its like any form of contraception its only about 98% effective
