Re: Breast feeding

express your milk into a bottle a breast pump is best for this.

and when ever you are ready start baby on powder milk.

there is no right or wrong time to stop breast feeding.

baby will breast feed for as long as you are willing to do it.

Re: Breast feeding

I have breastfed all my 6 kids. i fed them all between 12 and 15 months and in my experience it's a little bit harder to get them off the longer you leave it. First step is to get them used to drinking milk out of a bottle. I think cows milk is ok at 11 months but check with a health professional if unsure. So after they start drinking from a bottle cut the day feeds till your down to just morning and night, then just night time.

I've heard people say that they will eventually stop themselves but this has not been my experience. There comes a point where you just have to say no and offer them the bottle and they will NOT be happy. It's best to choose a time when your not too stressed, or the weather is not too hot. It can take an hour, two or three, half a day or even a whole night of screaming but they will eventually take the bottle. That's what its been like for me anyway. If your boobs get too sore you will have to express or you can feed them just enough for refief, then stop. Also at this phase I've given them one of my bras in the cot with them for comfort. The scent of you on the bra is a comfort. And I think it is easier to do while they are still in a cot.

Not saying that this is the right way to do it but it's the way I've done it and it's worked for me.

Re: Breast feeding

feed until you are ready to stop, you can start now to give bub cows milk in brekky and mash vegies. there is no need to put bub on formula if the diet is good, if bub is eating right cows milk is fine, only full cream milk it is not advised to give children under the age of 2 skim milk.

my parents put all 6 of us on cows milk after 12 months and I did the same with mine.

Re: Breast feeding

well, i recently came across a news report of a woman thats still breastfeeds her eight year old daughter... its best to just go for as long as it still feels comfortable, and is not an inconvenience. feeding for the first year gives your child the best start in life, anytime after that is a bonus. you can by a lot of formula/powdered milks for toddlers, these provide the best nutrients, cows milk does fine, but is very fattening, so its best to limit it, as it can cause obesity in toddlers

Re: Breast feeding

When ever you are ready to stop breast feeding is the right time... My mum fed all her kids for 2 years, I fed my younger boy for nearly 2 years (& my elder boy for 16 months), yet my sister only breast fed for 2 months... I think it is basically just cutting the feeds until there is only one a day left and then cutting that... That's how I did it anyway, and because my boys were really into the comfort sucking and wouldn't have dummies, I just put them onto bottles for a couple of months after stopping breastfeeding....I think after 12 months cows milk is ok, but gradually phase it in to make sure bub isn't lactose intolerant etc...
