TS in toddlers

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to find out all i can about tourettes syndrome in 3 year olds, since my daughter was 15 months old she's done this weird thing where she flaps her arms about, kicking her legs out and pulling faces when she does this, recently she's just started sucking air in through her mouth really loud, I'm not sure why she does this i'm terrified of going too the dr and find out that she definately has TS I don't know anything about it and i'm not even sure if this is what it could be I only thought this because a friend of mine whos a teacher actually suggested this too me if any of you have a different suggestions through experience or from seeing other children go through this you're advice will be greatly appreciated

Thanx Guys

Re: TS in toddlers

I wouldn't get concerned about a particular possibility at this point. some kids will develop strange behaviours if they get attention for doing it.

I wouldn't be worried about going to the doctor over it- what's the worst that can happen? They can tell you it's nothing, just a rewarded behaviour, or they can tell you it is something and refer you to someone to help you with it. Either way, your better off knowing.

Worry is a fear of the unknown- it grows when we put off getting knowledge.

Re: TS in toddlers

ts generally has a hereditary component to it the flaping and things like that can be both normal and part of other disorders as well you will be asked by the gp/ peid when have you noticed her doing this is it at a particular time is it after a particular event does it seem to happen with out her control.

ticks as they are known can be triggerd by certian situatuions events ect.

it may also be just some thing she is facinated by the sensation that she get feed back wise ie the way the wind feels through her fingers.

eitgher way going to the doc should not be put off as it could very well just put your mind at rest that what she is doing mat be just normal for her.
