I think this a great idea! Especially if you tell your little one that the present is from the new baby.

We have just found out that we are expecting bubba #2 and we will definatly be doing this for our son.

I bought my older child a baby doll when i went into hospital to give birth, then we could play babies together.

I had a little present for each visit, something to keep her entertained, like a sticker book or colouring. I did tell her they were from the baby but she was only two so she didn't know any different.

I think it's a really good idea....we had a present for our son from the new baby (although your daughter will be 3 years older than he was). It's also a good idea to not open the babies presents in front of the older child unless there is something for her there too - just so she doesn't feel left out.

when i hadmy daughte i brought my oldest a doly plus a little teddy for her to take to the hospital wen she met her baby sister and gave her theteddy

my friend has just had a baby and has a 3.5yr old little girl. so her daughter didnt feel left out she brought one of them baby dolls that wee so when its change time at home her daughter can play "babies" as well and she also brought a sofy toy truck from her daughter to her new son. she also gets her daughter to be hands on with helping bub like getting clothes and balnkets,  cleaning up the room so bub can sit next to her. its teaching her to be gentle with her brother and she loves it. also telling her about the baby and letting her kiss ur tummy at night will help her feel comfortable.

we had a present ready for when my son came into the hospital to see us when i had my daughter. He was 2 at the time and it was a great idea. We told him it was from the baby and it was just some small cars but it kept him entertained for the time i was in there.

Because your daughter is a little older make sure you include her in some of the decisions when you are setting up the baby's room, even if it is just choosing a picture for the wall. You could also take her to some of your appointments.

 I think a gift would be a lovely idea and this would make her feel included and involved in this joyous event.  Maybe even a little gift from her to the baby would be a nice idea.

we did the boys have 2 and ahalf years age difference. but its the age that matters. being an only child until that point makes them feel special if they received something  especially from baby as its improtant for bonding to start early. also so much attention will be on baby . so a present can only help the situation and not harm it

There is only 2 years difference between our two boys, but we found that giving a present to each of them from each other worked really well.  Our eldest gave the baby a present and the baby gave him a present.  It has also been a talking point whenever the boys play with the gifts now (20 mths later) and I think it has helped their relationship.  It can't hurt?!
