Ashton 3 months old has been on formula since day 1. First he was on heinz nurture gold, he had alot of winde problems so i was advised by the health nurse to change formulas. We then went onto Nan gold, that was going good but he kept getting constipated, i kept him on it for a couple of weeks but the wind problems came back. I was then advised again to change. This time we changed to karicare gold +, he has been on this for 1 month and has ever since had diarrhea, its just one watery poo a day. (have been to the doctors they arent worried) He also has really smelly farts, and alot of them
SO is it bad to change again?? I odnt want to keep changing cos i know its not good too but neither do i think its good to keep him on this one if its causing diarrhea??
Anyone else had problems with karicare formula?? I know all babies are different but what formula what for you without causing any upset tummies or the runs??
We have always used Nan for our twin boys, however we also give them s26 AR for babies with reflux formula at night. I know that the s26 can make them constipated, but we only give them the two feeds a night. This seems to be a good combination as it has stopped the reflux. We tried a few combinations. Changing formulas doesn't harm them, I think you just need to experiment and stick with it for a while until you find something that works.
try a lactose free formula my son had foul farts and runny poo and was told it could be lactos intolerance expecially if poos are a bit frothy, tried it but my son had bad silent reflux so it took ages to work that out and alot of wasted formula, good luck hope you find the right one
I have NO idea about the formulas you are taling about but, I do know that different formulas can cause stools to be different and that is NORMAL. Jedd was on Alimentum formula. It's a compeltely broken down formula and easy to digest.
That said, while on that formula it is completely normal for the child to have soft slightly runny green poop. That is exactly the way he was and every other child I know who is on it is the same way.
I'd talk to the DR and se if they know if that is normal for that particular formula.
I changed formulas bout 3 or 4 times till I found a good one for Aiden. I tried Karicare aswell and I didnt like it at all. It made everything stink really bad so we didnt stay on it for very long at all before I changed again. I finally found one that worked for us which was Novalac. But it is really up to your child which ones suits best but I wouldnt stop changing them until you find one that has no effect on your child.
Just to let you know H was on S26 gold as they used that at the hospital, We found that going to the chemist was cheeper than the supermarket by about $4-5. We had no problems with the s26gold and he used it right up untill about 13mths.
I have never used Karicare formula and don't even know of anyone that has, so I can't give you any advice or information on that, but my son was on S26 and then S26 Progress until I recently put him onto cow's milk (he's almost a year old) and he was fine on that.
If he's having bad diarrorea, I would be changing again. You have given the Karicare Gold formula a good enough trial.
There is another possibility for the diarheah and farting, Giardia, which is a parasitic infection that lives in the gut. It would be uncommon for a baby his age to have it but possible if formula fed because you get it from water. It is a common problem for people who drink tank water, but can be present in chloronated water, and is always best to boil drinking water for at least 3-5 minutes.
I have to get my 7 year old tested for it, and the above info my doctor gave me. It's just a simple stool culture they test and can easily be treated.
It's Probably more likely to be a digesting the formula problem but I just thought I'd mention it as a possibility that you may like to look into.
Hi, Maybe he is a bit intolerant to that type of formula... My nephew couldn't have cows milk ones, he had to have goats milk formula, it was the only one that didn't make him have the runs...
Earlier this year Karicare had to pull their Gold + range from NSW shelves due to putting something in that was not approved (some pre/probiotic). Around the same time they did this there was a news report form NZ of several babies getting serious gastro problems (diarrhea etc) from the same product. This could be the problem. Could you try just the gold or standard Karicare instead?
I used karicare HA/AR with my first i had to change my sons formula about 3 times before i found one that didnt make him constipated or have diorreah i ended up using the chemists brand formula he didnt have problems on that one so its just a matter of playing around till you're happy aslong as you give them enough time to get used to the formula first
It isfine to chance ella and mia stayed on Nan 1ha and 2ha gold. We didnt have a problem with it. But it was the HA gold so it was the more expensive one.
babies adapt to change so i dont see it a problem which one u thinking of using?
I ahve no idea becase ive heard s26 causes constipation! I was using NAN 1H.A. GOLD and he had problems with that to so i changed to teh karicare gold plus. Ive used all the expensive ones and his had problems with them all. I dont even know what forulas are left to try.
Ive also heard people had probs with the karicare gold plus i didnt know i was using plus, i thought it was just gold.
I know I wrote before but I think you'll be fine to change formulas again. Try him on one without the pre-biotics, they from my experince are the problems. He sounds like he has the same problem as my 2nd son. they smell is foul, and they poo is runny and yellow, and kinda looks like it's curdled. the farts make your eyes water.
Keep trying them, better to find one that works for him, and you. Good luck
