My eldest was about 2 and half when we put her into a car booster seat that was strapped to the chair(so that the booster doesn't move) and the middle one was about 1 (She is a little girl that can do everything!!! the big sister can do and with out help - yeah right) I will then be moving the booster seats into the car when the grow out of the other car seats they are in...So they have really come in handy....
Good luck - but remember once they are out of the high chair there is no going back....Well not here anyway....
my child is not quite two yet and he sits in a normal chair without a booster seat, he does still sit in his highchair but not often as he does not like to. i would suggest seeing if your child can sit in a normal chair and eat his meals without a booster seat and see if he is comfortable, if not then why not try sitting him a booster sit in the chair as every child does things at different ages. That is just a suggestion though and i hope it helps you in some way.
My oldest was about 9 months when we got his...we first used it just when we went away but he was in it full time from about 10 months. We got another for our youngest (there is only 17 months between them) when he was about 12 months as he was getting sick of the highchair and wanted to be like his big brother.
Forgot to say she was in a high chair till 8 months then in a table chair attachment to 15 months then on a chair that we sat on at 15 months. She didnt care about how small she was at the table, we did give her a pillow for a little while and that was it.
my son was about 2, he skipped the booster chair completly and was more content to sit up on his knees.. Which was not the original plan, but he would have it no other way.... Can you tell who is the sometimes boss around here..
Hi Angie, I only just started putting C in a booster seat on our chairs and she was 14 months, she loved it... and so do I (So glad to put that big bulky get in the road highchair away! lol)
My youngest was out of his high chair at 12 months. He outgrew it and wanted to be like his older siblings and sit in a 'big' chair. He's 18 mths now and still in the booster seat. The seat belt attachment is great.
Hey i've only just takin my son out of the highchair he's two he sits with his sister at a toddler table, she was also 2 when i took her out of the highchair
The second hand highchair we bought for use with DD1 fell apart when she was about 7 months, so she went straight in a booster seat (which had no tray) there and then. No problems because we strapped her in with reins and because she was more than happy to be fed until she was 3+. We were then given a highchair for DD2 and she is still in it at almost 2, which was a Godsend because she wanted to self-feed by 6 months, and so the tray was essential. I am in no hurry to move her out of it as it makes sure she stays put, is easy to clean & keeps the food roughly where I want it (she always empties the food either onto the tray or the floor, so Im trying to encourage her to use the plate or she will be eating off the tablecloth eventually).
So, I guess what my experience says is, it's up to you and your child - each one is different!
My first daughter was about 3 1/2 when sat in a chair and my second about 2 1/2 (with booster). There doesn't seem to be a specific age,but i guess you need to look at whether your child is strong enough not only to sit up, but to control the wobbles so they aren't likely to fall off (can get a harness that goes around child and around back of chair).
My son stopped using a high chair at about 17 months or so and I started him on a booster seat. Then he started using a toddler table a few months later.
My twins are now 16 months and rarely use the high chair. I have them eat on their big brother's toddler table and they do just fine.
