silent reflux troubles

just writing to see if anyone else has had trouble dealing with baby with severe silent reflux. my daughter had it bad she was put on losec wich the pediatrician prescribed and she was a totally different baby you wouldnt have thought she suffered at all with it could eat anything. But my 7month old son is suffering with the same he doesnt vomit he has the silent one also he is on the same medication plus mylanta when he had a bad reaction to something, but he is the most unsettled baby no matter what ive tried hes suufered with it since a wk or so old he has been back to ped nearly every month have tried so many different things, he wont lay on belly for more than 5 minutes so hes not crawling yet he sits up which he is more settled up right but not for long wanted to find out if any one else had any tips to make it easier for him, he cant have custards they trigger off real bad some fruits do the same,he has good days and bad days hes on reflux formula with everything he is taking for it he still suffers doc says he will grow out of it like daughter did.Hes 9 and a half kilos so they not concerned cos he is still putting on weight.Would love to know what foods will not trigger it off.

Re: silent reflux troubles

It could be worth a trip to the chiropractor with your bubs. Sometimes the reflux is a response to something being out of proper alignment. Our chiropractor is great with kids (he has 6 of his own) and he's seen more than one transformed bubs who left his office a different child regarding reflux and colic (and a week later the parents were different too. They were sane again! LOL!). Just be sure to find one who has a good reputation for working with small children.

Re: silent reflux troubles

You could try feeding your son yogurt with live cultures.  The best ones are the Natural plain yogurts or the ones you can make at home like easy yo.  Yoghurt breaks down lactose.  Lactose intolerance can often be a cause of reflux.  My nephew got quite bad reflux and it has now been found that his body cant tolerate lactose.  Also some sugars like fruit sugars (fructose) and Honey which is basically fructose can set it off.  My niece would cry everytime she went to the toilet, Would wake up screaming holding her belly in the night, was just constantly ill from birth to the age of 4. She had test after test after test to be found to not have the enzyme that breaks down complex sugars.  Once the sucrose and fructose was removed from her diet she got healthier and had alot less pain.

Re: silent reflux troubles

its  tough.  my daughter had it really bad since she was 5 weeks old. we also has her on everything. reflux formula, thickened formula, losec, milanta  ect. didnt do a bloody thing. spent so much money on the pead doctor. we eventually took her off everything & rode it out. it started to get better when she started to crawl. the next baby also showed signs of it. we now have him on lactose free formula. it seems to be working. he hasnt spewed in about 4 months. maybe it just settled his tummy down, im not sure? just keep the bibs on & maybe crawl around in front of him & hopefully he will crawl soon. Good luck!

Re: silent reflux troubles

Ok, so my daughter also had silent reflux, she seemed to get a bit better on Zantac syrup and we didn't need to put her on Losec.  I found it extremely difficult dealing with her screaming all the time, she didn't lie on her belly at all after about 1 month old because it hurt too much.  I found that if I lay her on my chest and lent backwards a bit she could practise lifing her upper body without getting to upset.  I also gave her lots of time in her rocker with things above her to bat and kick at so that she could develop coorodination even if she was having trouble getting enough strength to start crawling.  She didn't end up crawling till she was 10-11 months, but she got good at it pretty quickly (mind you her reflux did clear up at around 7 months.

Just a couple of questions;   Have you had your son allergy tested?  Are they sure he isn't allergic to lactose or anything that could be causing the reflux symptoms?  How well does he sleep?
