Hi, I'd like to know if anyone has any further personal information about this as I was advised 3 weeks ago that I had this. As I'm still searching for more information about it preferablely not from books etc..... As I'm new to minti I've already searched the site and came across one article were two members have had dealings with this, so if you see this please let me know of your further outcomes as I'm due to see the midwife & doctor on the 22nd October 08 and would like as much info as I can get. I'd also like to thank everyone in advance that helps or comments as I'm still on baby steps with the computer and everthing involved computers and bloging etc. THANK YOU (learner)
I was told at 20 weeks my son had this. He is now 3 months old and nothing was wrong with him. We had an extra scan at 30weeks because they like to see how the baby is grwoing and check the heart and kidneys. When he was 2 weeks old he had an ultrasound on his kidneys to make sure there fine and they were.
Ive written an advice article on here, ill add teh linkf or you to see.
Just wanted to add, they said id have a small also because i was only 5 pounds full term, and they also told me id have him early. Well they were wrong, he was a healthy 7 pound, and he was 5days overdue!
I'm very glad all is well with your son. And I look forward to getting the link. They (doctors/midwives) havent told me much of anything at the moment. Until I found out about this I had plans to be in and out (fast food service - lol). After being in Hospital with my first for 4 days, I never wanted to do that again I hate hospitals. I was in and out with my daughter, in at 5pm had her at 1.55am on Tuesday - hence the name MARDI and out the doors with her at 10am that morning. Was planning on doing that again as its Christmas and I hate being away from the family, not sure my sons happy about not going away this Xmas either, but finding all this out I'm wondering if I should stay to make sure all the tests are done straight away. But still fingers crossed all is going to go well and this is just another test in life. Thanks for the reply, Cheryl.
Hi! It is always a shock to be told there is something "wrong" with your baby however minor, so I can understand your desire for more information and know that it can be upsetting and confusing.
I had this with my 2nd pregnancy. I was warned it could mean a higher risk of certain birth defects and so I had more ultrasounds than normal and they double checked the organs and limbs for issues. I also read it can be linked with early deliveries and underweight babies, so I was prepared (seeing as my first was only 2.4kg and was 3wks early it was something I was used to anyway).
My daughter was born on her due date at a healthy 3.3kg and with no health problems what so ever - having expected an early due date I was frustrated at waiting full term, but was glad she was healthy. From memory they did take the placenta and cord to look at because of the issue, but i really don't have the best memory of that moment after 40 hours of labour (:(). Hope that helps but Minti mail me if you want more info.
Thank you kseers for your reply I'm not sure how to minti mail yet but I learn pretty quickly. So if need be will mail you. Glad everything turned out good for you. Fingers crossed. Cheers Cheryl.
That would be ME!!!! LOL Dannie should see this and pop over. We are oposite cases to the SUA situation. I am what the worse outcome *can* be and she had NO issue at all.
For a SUA it can be a marker for a congenitial heart defect which or son did have. Specifically the defect he had....a Ventricular Septal Defect. He also had another congenitial birth derfect know as a Hypospadias. Basically his urethra was malformed. His was a grade one and should have been repaired in one step but his repair failed and we will be seeing the surgeon soon.
If I ever get preg again, whether or not I have a SUA I will have a fetal echocardiogram to check the baby's heart for defects.
Here in the states if you have a SUA they are supposed to scan the internal organs to check for defects. My hosptial did NOT do that so his defect when un-checked until he was 6 weeks old (40 days old to be exact). He REALLY should have been checked since he had the other defect as well. that really should have piqued someone's interest, but it didn't.
Your posts have been very helpful. I like to have enough information as to what to expect, and to know what to ask for. I also have had doctors not do as they should in the past and all it does is create more pain and problems for your child. Some thing I wish to avoid if possible this time round. It was bad enough that this would have been discovered at my 20wk scan (I am now in wk30). I have had 1 appointment with a doctor and 2 appointments with midwives one of which informed me 3wks ago (not happy about being told so long after it was discovered). I have taken some info from the other post and will from this one too.
I really hope things go well for your son and your family as Im not sure how I would cope, although you take things in your stride as its your family.. I guess Im just preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. Good luck, Cheryl.
They caugth mine at my 16 weeks scan. After that I had quite a few scans because I had gestational diapbetes. so I had alot of them....LOL and his heart still was not caught.
I deliever 14 days early by induction. They thought I was only going to be 5 days early. The scan tech was wrong on my due date. :(
Jedd was 5lbs 15oz a tiny peanut. That is 2.3 Kilos. He was 19in long. They were also way wrong on the weight. They told me he would be around 7.5 pounds on the scan a couple of days before I delievered.
Thye did confirm the 2 vessel cord after I delivered. They showed it to me but I had NO idea what I was looking at....LOL
It's not something I woudl do a ton of worring about KWIM. As long as the scans of everythign look normal I"d take it one day at a time.
