Re: Six month old and day naps

My girls (16 months) are going through this. They are much older, but this may help out.

My girls took their first nap at 10 and the afternoon nap at around 3. But then they started not sleeping at 3, or they would be only after more than an hour and half of just babbling to each other. Right now, I've decided to put them to sleep at around 9:30 and they could only sleep for about 45 minutes. This seems to work and they are ready for their naps at 3. Also, there was a point at around 9 months when they only slept in the middle of the day. They keep us on our toes over here!

Re: Six month old and day naps

Some children are ready to go for the one nap a day at this stage. try stretching his morning nap to a little later and then see how they're feeling. Some days he might still want the two naps, and some he just wont need.  If you find that he is getting over tired try having quiet time at the time of their second sleep and that might be enough rest for them; eg read books, watch a tv program or have soft singing

Re: Six month old and day naps

Hi Rachel,

At this age all my girl had the same problem so I cut out the morning nap, brought lunch forward and found they all had around a 3 hour nap in the afternoon . .  My 2 yr old is still in this same routine, she is still in bed at 7pm and sleeps right through until 8am the next morning.

Hope this helps .  .  Cheers Kellz

Re: Six month old and day naps

My son decided to ditch his afternoon naps now has a really long one.  Maybe try putting him down a little later and see if that helps.   This helped me with his morning naps.

He may not be tired at all at this stage.  As I suggested try putting him down say 30 min later and see what happens either that or just try and tire him out.

hope that helps a little.

Re: Six month old and day naps

Hello Rachel,

It all depends on the following factors:-

1. What time does the child get up?    2.  Does the child have a healthy breakfast ?  (By this I mean a fruit included in the diet)   3.  How vigorous are the baby's morning activities?  4.  Do you take the time off to put the baby to sleep without any pre-occupations in your mind  (because the babies sense the vibrations and know that mommy is going to go away and hence may not sleep)

Well... I personally feel that the mother knows the best.  One can only give you pointers to think and figure out the problem in the right direction.  Hope this is helpful.

Re: Six month old and day naps

Not sure if this will help but my little girl never has really napped much during the day from about 3 months. Since then we have made a routine of keeping her one nap place during the day and her bedtime in different places.  Shes quite energetic throughout the morning til about midafternoon..she has a eating schedule from when she wakes up and mid afternoon after her snack she gets a bottle and goes into her portacot....lol at this time i disappear cause i know if she can see me she will fight it and want to be taken out.  When she cant see me she will drink some of her bottle sometimes play with her soft toy quietly and drift off for a short nap. Come 8 pm she is taken down to her bedroom where we play a musical toon for her switch the lights off while her music is still going and leave the room quietly ..because she doesnt nap much during the day she sleeps through the night.  We have kept this up the whole time as a solid routine and shes now 10 months old.
