Milk

My baby will be a year old the end of november, she is eating regular foods has 3 teeth adn more commign in,  seh is walking around and has been for a while and saying a few words....   so does all this mean she is old enough to have whole milk?  seh only gets a bottle before bed adn nap... for comfort reasons!  the rest of the day she gets her tippy cup...  if she gets whole milk, do I subsitute it for her formula at nights?   or do I have do do something special with her... like feed her certain foods to replace her formula or do I just keep feeding her what we have for dinner and lunch?  seh still gets her baby rice cereal... but is that enough?

Re: Milk

All of my 3 children were on cows milk by 12 months of age and had no problem with it.  They also loved weak milo in their milk- lots of nutrients.  Just be sure to clean any teeth that she has.

Re: Milk

about a month before our daughter turned one i started weening her by putting full cream cows milk in her brekky wheat-bix crushed instead of formula i just warmed it like normal formula n the a week before her first b day i threw our all formula n bottles n just went straight to cows milk with out any fuss n problems probably because she was getting used to the tase before the convert and i swear its the best thing we did  and we will do the same when our 4 mth old gets to that age

Re: Milk

It is perfectly fine to add cow's milk to your baby's diet before they are 12 months.

Unless she has a specific dietary requirement, it does not lead to childhood obesity.

You can gradually add it to the formula a little at a time whilst decreasing the actual amount of formula given.

Re: Milk

All mine were on cows Milk before 12 months of age and i put Pentavite in their milk, as it replaces the vitamins they lose from not being Breastfed or Formula fed..

It was highly reccommended by a Mothecraft Nurse...

Re: Milk

12 months of age you can start them on cows milk, i started with it in breakfast first then build it up to day nap bottle, my son didnt like cows milk so my clinic nurse said to try him on sunshine powdered milk and he lived it, one of my daughters couldnt have cows milk we had to give her soy milk, there are alot of other options out there for you to try.

good luck

Re: Milk

I breastfed my son until 8 months, then switched him to formula.  Then at 11 months, when I was sick of paying for formula, I switched him to 2%, with my doctor's blessing.  I just mixed it half and half with the formula at every feeding for about a week before I went to just straight milk.

My son's doc said whole milk was unnecessary b/c my son is in the 98th percentile, but obviously that decision is up to you and your child's caregiver. :)

As far as the "certain foods" things goes, I asked my doctor, and told him what I was feeding my son.  He advised me that he was eating plenty of a good variety foods to get the nutrients he needed.

Re: Milk

its recommended a child needs 3 portions or dairy a day that can be made up of milk feeds cheese or yoghurts from 6 months home made foods can be made with whole milk, from 12 months they can drink whole milk i switched my sons morning bottle first that way if he had any allergys id be more likely to notice. After 48hrs if all is well she is rdy continue to meet the 3 dairy portions a day and they have all they need from that section of there diet

Re: Milk

full cream milk can sometimes lead to childhood obesity, i wouldn't go more than one cup per day, and try the toddler formulas and make sure she gets a variety of foods with every meal, lots of veggies fruits and wholegrains.
