Re: stop breast feeding
At that age there is no need to replace BF with anything else(as far as diet just offer a wide range of healthy foods and 3 serves of dairy). Instead it is just a case of stopping the feed-this is best done over a long period rather then a week or so. Here's some things that might help:-
*pick the hardest feed to let go (overnight, first thing in the morning etc) and do that one first. Then the next hardest. * During the day try offering favourite foods or drinks as a form of distraction * Go out or to places where feeding happens less often * If a feed usually happens while you're still in bed in the morning then make an effort to wake up before him and get dressed (remove the temptation LOL) * You can build him up to weaning by pointing out the 'big boys' who are weaned etc * If feeding to sleep then implement a bedtime routine that removes the feed * If there are long feeds then start cutting them shorter until they are gone *Wear different clothes that are harder to access *Distraction works really well-when he asks for a feed then offer a game or toyu or something novel to do instead * try to stay calm through the process-reluctant weaners can sense tension in the mother and often want more feeds making mum more anxious.
also keep an eye on yourself. Ensure you aren't getting any blockages etc. the slower the weaning process the easier on everyone.A lot of mums work out how many feeds their LO has and then drop one every couple of weeks until weaning is complete.
Hope this helps
