TREAT DRINKS

Hiya, I'm asking about TREAT drinks (once or twice a week)

What do you think is better,  "fuzzy drinks" or "milk shakes"

NOTE:

The milk shakes are made to tasted good, so full cream milk and lots of milo and ice cream.

diet foods are evil

Re: TREAT DRINKS

speaking as the mean mummy from hell, i have an arsenal of treats up my sleeve.

  • we have lemonade night on friday nights
  • i keep telling my children fresh fruit and vege juice that i make in the juicer is a treat but they are on to that one.Specially when i tell them beetroot is actually berries.
  • i have tried mixing juice and soda water, they dont fall for that either
  • i do milk shakes not more than about three times a year and i also use gorgeous bidynamic full cream milk ( the kind that has the cream on top so you have to shake it, yum) They love it but because i am a b**** they only get it rarely
  • I allow nesquik in the house but only because someone in the family wont drink his milk, and i am too tight to buy chocolate milk

Re: TREAT DRINKS

Hi ya Fry,

Treat drinks, now this is interesting . . .  But may I ask why only the two idea's . . .???

Fizzy drinks are for me a huge no no as they are packed with sugar so my kids would be lucky to get one or two of these a year . . . Even at Macca's its bottled Orange juice or water

Milkshakes are GREAT but these really aren't a treat, my kids can do this anytime as milk is great for them and there are so many different ways that you can make a shake, even flavoured can sometimes be healthy . . D loves her egg flip milkshakes and asks for one every day . . All this milkshake involves is 1 raw egg, drop of vanilla essence and milk, beat it all together and YUMMO . ..  One healthy shake . .

For a TREAT we will:

  • Make all milk hot Milo's with a marshmellow in the top . ..  The kids LOVE it
  • Orange juice with crushed ice . ..
  • Banana or strawberry smoothies .. . you can use other fruits but these two are my kids fav . .
  • Watermelon crush ..  put watermelon and ice in a blender, zap for 20 seconds and YUMMMM

Cheers Kellz

Re: TREAT DRINKS

Go the milkshake or a smoothie for added variety and fruit...My kids love the banana thrown in with the milo or even strawberries with the milo...Yummm....

We very very very rarely have a soft drink (FIZZY)...

Re: TREAT DRINKS

Milkshakes are great and if you want to make it a bit healthy, throw in a banana, they will never know.  When i make milkshakes they are milk milo ice cream and banana.  And fizzy drinks as a special treat are ak and you can get fizzies that have no preservatives, or so they say but shop around, you will know what feels right.

Re: TREAT DRINKS

I would say milkshakes as Fuzzy drinks  (lol) are full of sugar, at least with milk you get some nutrition like calcium hehehe and milo is great for you ;)

Re: TREAT DRINKS

Definately the homemade milkshake- packed with calcium which is good for growing bones and nice and filling so they'll feel like they've had a real treat. Just make 'em brush their teeth afterward.

Carbonated drinks have been linked to decreased bone density-which can lead to osteoporosis. They are also potentially bad for little children's sensitive stomachs. 1 can of soft drink (375mls) contains 13 teaspoons of sugar and none of the nutritional value of a milkshake. Your dentist will be rubbing their hands together with glee over the potential money making cavities

Diet soft drinks are also a big no no for childen, especially if there is a history of epilepsy in the family- some of the artificial sweetners can trigger attacks in chemically sensitive children.

Re: TREAT DRINKS

I get a big bottle of soft drink and we all share it about once every 2 weeks . It's too much sugar.

Milkshakes are the go I reckon and might as well go the whole hog with the ice cream and milo.

I have a cow that I milk every day so my kids actuallly drink a lot of milk. I buy chocolate powder to mix and I let them have it as much as they like.

I know sugar, etc but we dont eat lollies or much sugary processed foods. I know some people regularly drink large quantities of soft drink and it must not be very good.

Re: TREAT DRINKS

That is SO cool that you have a cow!

I really love fizzy drinks but I try not to drink them in front of my son as I know they are so bad for kids (and me!). He's only ever drunk milk and water and I'm trying to  keep it that way for as long as poss....when he's old enough I definately think a milkshake will be a nice treat...with a sneaky banana thrown in

Re: TREAT DRINKS

thats really good that you give him water. I see some people that give their kids cordial and they end up not even drinking water. Soft drink is so expensive too on top of everything else on the food list that just bumps it up a bit more.

It is really cool having a cow. Actually I have 3 with calves but I'm only milking one atm. I get about 8 litres per day, but I skip some days and let the calf suckle to keep her milk up. It definately keeps my food bill down having the cows though I do have to buy chaff and dairy meal to feed her. (I have a photo of us milking her on my profile page)

Re: TREAT DRINKS

Milkshakes are the go, I think. No food(or drinks) are bad if you only have them occasionaly.

LOL Thats the only way to make them! I am lactose intolerant but I make them that way for my family & they love them.
