I have to admit, I don't know what '7 stones' is in weight, but your daughter is only 8, as long as your striving to give her a variety of foods from all the food groups and limiting sugars, she'll be fine. I wouldn't recommend giving her a complex over her weight at 8- she'll grow and thin out eventually.

the most important thing is to get active with your child. go on walk together and use every opportunity to have a healthy lifestyle. Limit times on computer and watching tv. Encourage health eating only have certain snacks in the house no chippies or lollies. Fruit for snacks / between meals sandwich with low fat cheese popcorn etc. Hope this helps

I agree with the advice in the first reply you received.  Also, how tall is she?  7 stone seems rather heavy for the average 8 year old so i would be looking at her diet.  If her diet is low fat, low sugar and she eats lots of ehalthy food, then you may need to take her to your GP and discuss it further as it could be hormonal or even a thyroid problem.

I did an experiment with my kids one day when they were complaining that I didn't give them rubbish in their lunch boxes every day like most other kids got.  so we stood at the kitchen bench and took out some packets of food and read the sugar content per serve.

I converted the grams of sugar to teaspoons and we put them into a glass.  They were horrified when they saw that a couple of biscuits, lollies, cake, cereal with added sugar, milo, soft  drink and two fruit juices contained nearly a FULL glass of sugar!  we then did a similar experiment with fat content and again they were horrified thinking of that much fat going into their bodies each day.

I actually said to them, "So why don't you just eat this glass of sugar and drink this glass of oil so you don't have to worry about all the additives (numbers)".  Which of course they found utterly disgusting!

Kids are "show me the proof" types, who really need to see with their own eyes for it to make sense and to this day (they are now 14 and 10) they both remember clearly what we discovered and still talk about it.

That is a marvelous idea!  I'm going to have to remember that in case I ever need to demonstrate just how healthy that junk food the other kids are eating is.  Thank you for sharing!

is your daughter in sport? 8 is a great age to get your kids into after school activities, she doesnt ahve to be an overl;y "sporty" person to enjoy it my daughter is a bit uncoordinated and dancing ahs doen the world of good for her.

also trampolines are great and scooters and bikes, take her out or walk to and from school you will benifit tooo haha

cut out sugary drinks theya re the main cause of obesity, water and milk are fine.

fruit drinks are full of sugar and even fruit juice made yourself wont compare to being given a peice of fruit.

fizzy drinks are messed up and even a can of lemonade will contain around 17 teaspoons of sugar which will then be stored as fat.

pasta is fine just get moving and have fun with it :)
