Re: teething

hi my little boy is too he has only done it a few time the screaming but i picked him up and walked around if that didnt work id take him out side briefly in the cold then when he catches his breath start to walk in talking to him distracting him. i also use this teething gel called medigel its found in the adult section in a chemist is mint flavour, the womens and childrens hospital in SA use it.

my son had a bilateral cleft lip and palate and i thought teething would be horrible but its not to bad for me good luck.

Re: teething

Please take her to a doctor - I fell into this trap with my second - oh it;s teething - give a bit of panadol and she will be fine.  Even day care thought it was teething.  Took her to the doctor and there was a raging ear infection!!!  I felt so guilty!  Two doses of antibiotic and suddenly I had my happy child back again!

Re: teething

Try going to her doctor and telling him whats going on.  It may not be teething.  It could be colic, night terrors, or any number of things.  Most children who have that much pain teething have a fever to go with the teething.  No one can judge this other then your doctor.  My daughter did the same thing and she was having colic on top of night terrors.  A baby can appear to be awake during a night terror so really watch for that.  My daughter would run back and forth in her crib during them, she was in a crib until she was almost three do to her running into a wall during one of them.  The best thing you can do is get to the sorce of the problem by speaking to your baby's doctor!

Re: teething

Hi there,

I noticed that my little girl also does that sumtimes. She hasnt done it for a while but i put it down to bad dreams. I was told that its bad to wake them up when they're having nightmares but i always try to. She screams so loud and i fear that she'll lose her voice that way.. its so loud and squeky and no matter what i do she wont stop. It usually takes about yeah 10 minutes like u said for her to settle on her own. I noticed that this happens if she plays alot after her dinner and before bed. Maybe try this and see what happens. Hopefully she wont have any more of these episodes..

GOOD LUCK

Re: teething

Hi - I just read what you said about your little girl havig nightmares.  Did you know there is something called "night terrors"?  It is actually medically defined as a syndrome and some people grow out of it and some don't.  My son (now 14) started them when he was about 6 mths old and flowly grew out of them and we haven;t had an episode since he was about 12.

When he "woke" his eyes werer open but he would wander around the house and sometimes laugh or cry for no apparent reason and it could take him up to an hour to settle again.

what hapepns is when most of us are startled by a noise or thought through the night we will either be aware of it, and remain asleep and then ignore it (say, a dog barking or car horn) or we will wake, register it and go back to sleep.

In people who have NTs, they will be startled enough to get up, but not be fully awake.  My son has done some really funny things during these episodes, but he never has any memory of them the next day.

And you are correct - it is not goood to try and snap them out of it.  Some sleep experts say that can be dangerous but I have never gone into why with anyone.  Just make sure you are there with her, whisper reassurance that she is ok, and wait it out.

Re: teething

Does she raise a hand to where it may hurt? Such as to her face or ear? I only mention this as she may have something other then teething happening such as an ear infection.

Re: teething

They are more perturbed by it at night as they are trying to sleep and have nothing to divert their attention.  I wrote an article on here a few weeks ago about teething.  My friends' mum got her wisdom teeth in between kids 2 and 3 and said she found it wasn't painful as such, but incessantly itchy and that lemon juice helped a lot.  If giving it to babies though, suggested you wrap it in muslin or gauze first so they don't suck in pulp or seeds.  Worked for my kids - they pulled some rubbery faces, but continued chewing on the wedges.

There used to be a great natural product that I don't know how I would have survived two babies without - I bought it at Soul pharmacies and it was called Harles Herbal Teething and Colic mixture - I found a does of this worked faster and kept pain at bay for twice as long as panadol baby drops and it is all natural.  In between my first and second babies it was changed and divied up into two different mixtures so I bought a bottle of each and mixed a little of them together to get the desired effect.  My youngest is 10 now though and I am not sure if it is still on the market.  Maybe google it.

Re: teething

Hey, I dont know if its normal but Lexi does it too. It takes anywhere beween 15 to 45 minutes for her to calm down.

Sorry, have no tips but turning the light on seems to help.
