Re: Honey and teeth

As long as you observe good tooth hygiene with your lad, he should be fine. In the UK, we are told that honey shouldnt be consumed by children under 12 months, though I turned up an interesting article in the Guardian Newspaper which suggests that it is really the under 6 month olds who have anything to fear, and that unless you are in California, your honey is probably safe anyway! If it gets him to eat a healthy breakfast then I wouldnt worry.

Re: Honey and teeth

The thing with honey is it can harbour spores of some bacteria which can cause botulism in young children, as to why its not reccomended fro under 2 yr olds. All though if he has been eating it for some time now, his little tummy is obviously able to fight off these spores and I would see no harm in continuing it.

As it has already been reccomended just brush his teeth after breaky and a tiny little bit of honey will not cause any damage to them.

Re: Honey and teeth

My 20 month old has had honey on his porridge since the day he started eating. As long as you brush their teeth a couple of times a day, a little honey isn't going to do any harm.

Re: Honey and teeth

Honey is a natural sugar and is much better for him than putting sugar on his cereal, people used to say it was bad for them years ago because some people used to put it on their dummies when they went for a sleep so it was sitting on their teeth while they slept.. If you are concerned just clean his teeth after the meal but I think it is very healthy for him, he is obviously interested in trying new foods their is not many kids that would try that good on you. I love warm weetbix with honey better than sugar any day.
