Re: brest milk

Hi there,

She can drink as much water as she can or maybe if she has had enough then she can drink milkshakes. Try banana or strawberry milkshakes and fruit smoothies.. these are the best things to increase milk supply. Also lots of soup will do wonders. Fish soup, wanton soup, vege soups.. any kind of soup. These are just alternatives.. give it a try..

Good luck

Re: brest milk

Fish soup is also another great milk supply booster just think of all the omega3's, and remember she's still eating for two.

Re: brest milk

Most people drink about 2litres of water a day but lactating women may find an increased thirst. While BF mums should drink according to their thirst. Not everyone takes in the same amount of fluids. I myself cannot bring myself to drink 2 litres a day and while BF got in about a litre in a day.

If you want to help in this regard every time you see your wife sitting down to feed you can bring her a glass of water we women tend to sit down and start to feed only to get comfortable and realise we have no water LOL

Re: brest milk

midwives suggest 3 L.  if you consider that if the baby drinks 80-200ml per feed (will vary depending on the age of the baby), 6-10x per day, thats a total of 640 (80mlx8feeds)-1200mls(200mlx6feeds) going to the baby.  the extra fluid is to keeps your wife hydrated and functioning. (as an adult should have 2L per day).

to help keep track she could get a 1L bottle and fill it at breakfast, lunch and dinner.  thats what i try to do, as i am breasfeeding a 5 month old, although it is difficult.

Re: brest milk

Everyone should drink at least 2 litres a day that is whats recommened but not everyone can do this so a litre to a litre and a half would be fine.
