Re: IS IT NORMAL TO NOT HAVE A PERIOD WHILE BREST FEEDING?

Hi!  I think you've done really well, giving it a go second time around!  Well done!  Many women don't get periods while breastfeeding - nature's form of contraception.  However it generally only lasts while they are exclusively breastfed and while they are feeding through the night, so it won't last forever!  I have taken additional contraception with each of mine - especially after six months - as you never know when ovulation will kick back in.

As to weaning, I put my daughter straight onto cups - she never had a bottle at all, and I just got her used to them with water before anything else, so that might work.  Check this out for more ideas.

Re: IS IT NORMAL TO NOT HAVE A PERIOD WHILE BREST FEEDING?

Hi I breastfed my 2yr old little girl for 18months and didnt get a peroid at all during that time and was told that for some women that is quite normal.  My peroid went straight back to normal once I had weaned her completely.  It took me a while to wean her as well but I had a lot of help from my husband ( he would feed her and give her water or sometimes a little juice and after persevering with that she got used to it) also I found it helpful to make sure she had had enough to eat at mealtimes because it stops them from being so thirsty all the time... hope it helps a little bit and good luck. :)

Re: IS IT NORMAL TO NOT HAVE A PERIOD WHILE BREST FEEDING?

Yes, it's perfectly possible not to have a period while breastfeeding, but it's also possible to fall pregnant while breastfeeding, so dont count on not falling this month just coz you havent had a period yet! With DD1, she didnt sleep thru until 9 months (and stopped again after 5 weeks) and my period came back during that time (to stay, even when she didnt sleep thru again til 15 months). With DD2 she still isnt sleeping thru (at 25 months) and my period is spluttering back unpredictably since about June. So I guess for me, its all to do with how much I night-feed them!

I've fed thru the teething and I'm still ok (tho I admit I got a nip tonight - first for months, must be molars on the way) so it is possible. But everyone has a different time they are comfortable stopping, so if you've reached yours, have you thought about a lidded cup? My DD1 refused the bottle, even of expressed milk, but was tempted onto the cup for juice at about 6 months. Also, you might need to hand the bottle and the baby over to someone else to get him used to the fact that the boob isnt available. Sounds like you've got a determined baby there tho - good luck!

Totally.. I did not get my period until about two weeks after I finished breast feeding which was 8 months after I gave birth....
