MORE potty training help!!

thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier post. she's doing really good so far. i've been taking her to sit on the potty every hour but she's only gone twice. no accidents though . now i'm wondering, when i take her to the pottly and i let her sit there trying to go, how long to i tell her to keep trying before i let her get off with out going?

Re: MORE potty training help!!

hi i used to ask my kids every 15-20min if they wanted to go and then put them on the potty straight after meals, generally i left them on there for about 5 min each time, with my son we had a rewards chart 3 different sized stickers (small for a little wee, medium for a big wee and well big sticker for the all important bowel motions). they also each chose a book (their favorite) which was only to be read at potty time, so the longer they chose to sit for the more of the book and if they were holding on just because they could, it got the desired result, this was also a night thing for my son when he got up, but dry nights and no nappies before two, one tired but very happy washing free mum! good luck

Re: MORE potty training help!!

Reward her when she uses her potty to go to the toilet. Stand up with her and clap hands and go Yaaay! Because the potty is an exciting thing and a wonderful achievement. Soon she will realise when she does her business in the potty, it's a really positive thing and will want to do it more often! My mum would always reward me with a freddo frog, so I sure as hell made sure I would go to the toilet while on that potty haha there was no need to wait long. One day I was so excited about getting my freddo that I stood up in a hurry and knocked it all over the carpet.. all mum could hear was this loud... "UT OHHHH.... UT OHHHH" haha

i know its sounds like a lot but i ask my 2 year old every five minutes if she needs to go to the toilet because sometimes they dont no if they need to go till right before so just be persistent and constantly ask

Re: MORE potty training help!!

Hi again,

I wouldn't take her to the toilet, just ask her every so often if she needs to go. If you do take her don't let her sit there for longer than a few minutes as she may just loose interest in it.

Congratulations on the success so far.

Re: MORE potty training help!!

i found that running a tap helped my son when i was trying to train him. he would try for ages but with the running water we had progress within a few minutes. however parents know their children and what their limits are.

Re: MORE potty training help!!

Don't make her go until she indicates that she needs to go... Sure you may have a few accidents along the way, however the more pressure you put on her and the more she has to sit there without doing anything, the longer the whole process will take.  PS, Congratulations to her for those little successes ; )
