home birth

i really want a home birth for my second baby due in eight weeks but i had a lot of problems with my first labour [both me and bub were distressed and then my uterus collapsed along with other things] and i was wondering if anyone who has had a hard labour has had a home birth after because i dont want to put my bub at risk

Re: home birth

Here in the states you can have a "home birth" IN the hospital. Is that an option for you. they have a suite set up for just that purpose so tha tyou can safly deliver you child IN the hospatila but in a less restrictive environment than a normal hospital birth.

they ahve birthign balls, ropes, chairs, and tubs in some cases. Just a thought. That way you can do it both ways and if the baby and you get into distress, you are right there to get delivered via C section if needed.

Re: home birth

Have you discussed it at all with your antenatal care provider?  They could give you some idea of the risks involved.  I would also talk to independent midwives and perhaps your care provider for your previous delivery.  What does your partner think of the choices?

I had an emergency caesar with my son as he was in distress.  I considered having a home birth with my 2nd to try and ensure a better chance of a natural delivery - and I know many vbac-ers do.  For me, my husband was against the idea completely (and so was my dr), plus I live 45 mins from the hospital, so if something did go wrong we're a bit isolated.  However I think if you live close enough, have a good midwife and your recurring risks are low it is something to consider, but I would not consider it if they suggest that your chance of the same thing happening again is high.

Re: home birth

Why were you distressed in your first labour? If it was because of the hosp environment I can understand why you may want a hb. Talk to independant midwives and see what they think. Research as much as you can. Maybe tell your story at joyousbirths.

Ask yourself- why do I want a hb? Is it safer for myself and baby to birth at home? Am I prepared?

I agree! The most important thing is your safety and that of the baby! A home birth doesn't sound like a safe option. I guess you should ask yourself "what would have happened if I had had a home birth the first time?". Doesn't sound like the answer would have been a plesant one!

Re: home birth

There is plenty you can do yo research the subject and the risks. Is there any independant midwives near you or willing to travel to you? Is there doulas near you? All these people will be able to give you heaps of info about the risks of doing each so that you can make your own decision. Having a midwife present at your homebirth when you've had previous complications would be a great idea for the just in case.

In the end the decision is yours. Even if a homebirth has risks for you so will the hospital birth. you just need to way up those risks and do what YOU feel is right for you and bub. Good Luck and happy birthing whatever comes.

Re: home birth

seeing as though you ahve had previous complications i would suggest a home birth is an incredibly bad idea
