How do I teach baby to self settle?

My son is 10 months old and up until now I have been feeding him to sleep. But I want him to be able to fall asleep without me.

You can try altering his routine slightly and see if that helps - and read "No Cry Sleep Solution" (Elizabeth Pantley) - seems very solid helpful stuff...

Re: How do I teach baby to self settle?

Hey, my 15month old baby self settles beautifully! All I did to teach her to do it was be persistant and consistant. I tuck her in her cot with a small snuggle toy, her blanket and a bottle, and i leave the room. At first she would cry, so i would wait a bit then go and give her a cuddle and repeat the process. it can be tiring and takes probable a couple of weeks to master, but now all i do is tuck her in, give her her bottle and snuggle toy and leave the room and when i go to check on her ten minutes later she's already asleep!! Good luck!

when my daughter started going to bed by herself i would give her a teddy bear and tell her that she had to put the teddy to sleep this got her to sleep really easy

hey there ,

I to had that same problem with both my girls but i found laying them on their side facing away from you *to avoid eye contact * and gently patting them on the back both my girls fought the sleep but soon got used to the idea its hard at first but if you keep persisting it should work * ..

goodluck

You son associates going to sleep with feeding him to sleep. Associate something else with sleep like a bath or a bedtime story. After a while he will settle in to his new routine.
