What's my baby looking at?

Has anyone else had the feeling that their baby or young child is looking at something that you can't see?

I have had experiences when my babies have seemed focused on  thin air, and smiling, like they can see something entertaining, but I can't.  My baby did this yesterday, mid way through a feed (and no, it wasn't just wind).  I am interested to hear of any other experiences like this.

Re: What's my baby looking at?

A couple of years ago I lost a very close friend from cancer.  On the day she died my then 7 year old said that I had better buy some flowers because she had passed away at 9 am and sure enough she had. A week later my  then 4 year old said she could smell toast cooking in the mornings and no one was up!! One morning she climbed into bed with me and asked who the lady sitting on the end of my bed was. Well I freaked and hid under the covers and this was at 7 in the morning.!!! I never asked her what the lady looked like as I was too scared too but yes Im positive that kids can see spirits!!. My now 3 year old  says she has a little friend by the name of sellis and she talks to her constantly. It spins me out but I now go with the flow!!!!!!!

Re: What's my baby looking at?

HI, my baby boy did this quite often - up to a dozen times a day - from when he was about 6 weeks old and it is now trailing off at 5 months old, though some days he is at it again.  He seems to be utterly entranced and has such a joyful smile when he does it.  I have been told that babies can see angels because they don't have all the hang-ups and 'disbelief' that we adults have clouding our eyes.  I tried to see anything that could be catching his eye but I never could and I like to think that he was looking at his own personal guardian angel.  Sounds a little weird and I'm not totally comfortable writing it because it makes me sound a bit of a freak but it just seemed to fit with him.

Re: What's my baby looking at?

thankyou for sharing your experience.  I tend to agree.  I believe in guardian angels, and that spiritual beings may visit.  I don't think you're a freak!! I think its nice if we can believe in things that science can't explain.  Hearing that others have had the same experience, helps ME feal like less of a freak!!

My first-born especially did this. I can remember who it was, but someone used to say that he was smiling at the angels.

Re: What's my baby looking at?

this may sounds like im strange, but levi got himself onto a chair nothing unusual, just that the chair was pulled out from the table, i turned away for a minute, turned around and he was pushed in. when i asked him who pushed him in, he said mamma. (which is what i called my great grandmother) he now goes around saying mamma chook (which is what everyone called her as she had lots of chooks)... strange because we never have spoken of her near him. she died when i was only a child. so I think babies can see things..we cant. if not they have fantastic imaginations and im going loopy???? either way. good luck.

Re: What's my baby looking at?

My son just after he turned 1 started doing this, I would love to believe that it's his guardian angel that he can see, also to prove my point one day we got a photo and there is a white outline of a toddler on the bak arms and legs up in the air. My belief is my boy can see this person/thing and he likes to play with it.

My son will often be in the middle of playing with his toys and stops to stare at nothing in particular, he will then start to talk to thin air.

Cheers Queenie

Re: What's my baby looking at?

this was a loong time ago, my sisters first child, she was 8 or 9 months and we sat her in the middle of bed to play, my sister yelled out to me to come and watch her.  and my neice put her hand out in thin air as if she was reaching for somone and she started laughing... i got scared and ran out!!!

of course we thought it was someone,

i believe that babies and old people are the same they can see things that we cant see, the same goes to animals. babies can see things the problem is they cant speak and say somthing, some old people see things and tend to talk to themselves or loose there minds, and to us we think they are just getting old.

well thats what i think  everything in life eventually goes back to where they started just in a diffrent form!!

Re: What's my baby looking at?

Yes all the time, during feeds he will all of a sudden stop sucking and give his undivided attention to what I think is "thin air", in the middle of playing games together haha

How old is your son? Mine is approx. 9 weeks old. As babies get older they suddenly are able to see more complicated patterns or images. Sometimes something will catch their eye and catch them off guard. For example my son loves the bright yellow wall but more than anything else, any source of bright light.

Babies don't really realise that they're actually smiling until after approx. 10 months of age. They mimic our facial expressions and do it at the most inappropriate of times :-p

Re: What's my baby looking at?

P.S I too am a very spiritual/new age type of person but I try to look at any scientific or psychological explanations before reaching my own conclusions. If this is what you're referring to I hope I haven't discouraged any personal beliefs. Some things just don't have explanations ;-)

xx

Re: What's my baby looking at?

me too.  I always try to rule out any logical explanation first.  I have a balance between the scientific and the unexplained.  My daughter is 5 1/2 months.  She is very social and a little advanced, developmentally.  I also have a son and another daughter who are twins and will be 4 in Feb.  They still talk about seeing things that i cant see, and it freaks me out sometimes.  I actually went to a psychic when some bizzare things were happening with my twins in the middle of the night, (before they could talk and tell me) and she thought they had angels, and was surprised that i saw what i did.  I generally try not to see things, from fear of the unknown i guess.

Re: What's my baby looking at?

My son has just turned one, from the day that he came home he has always looked at little things around the room that we can't see. He is really into playing 'peek a boo' at the moment. (Funny i read this today after last night)... Last night i stood out side of his room becuse i thought he was crying... he was actually laughing, i soon enough realised that he was playing 'boo' with ????? when i went into his room i went to play it wtih him and he wouldnt play with me lol, (poor mummy!)

Also a couple of weeks ago my husband was giving him a little massage on his back and then William jumped up and was looking every were around my hubby as if he was looking for someone. We call the person that he plays with 'dave' as a joke. I was brought up to belive in the things that you might not see. I'm not sure what it is that William often plays with or looks at i just no that nothing ever scares him that i can't see so i dont stress about it.

My belief is that young ones can see stuff that we can't.  They still have connections with the spirit world and are usually smiling at someone they know from their recent past.

Re: What's my baby looking at?

Yes I know what you mean.  My partner used to always say he thought our baby could see ghosts as he would do the same.  I didnt want to think about ghosts so I put it down to him not having  proper coordination skills and he was just smiling at certain sounds or even his own thoughts.

Thats just what I think.
