How can i understand that i did the right thing for Patrick?

My youngest boy Patrick had a high tempreture on Thursday and was called up by childcare to pick him up and i did and took him to the doctors and within the hour his tempreture had gone up. The Doctor had a look at him and was a bit worried about him and refered him to the hospital and was taken there by the ambulance because the nurse at the doctors had called them, anyway got to the hospital and they did some tests such as the urine and the bloods, the urine came back fine and one of the bloods came back fine but the other one did not, so they admitted him into the hospital beacuse of being a bit dehydrated, Return there on friday and find out that he has an ear infection and might put him on antibiotics for the infection and have been continus feeds throu a tube for his milk and giving him solids for food. The doctors were concered that he was not putting on enough weight, but we already knew that, its not like we have heard this before,we were trying to tell them that we want to know why, it could be him metalisim because he eats enough food and milk as it is, we don't know.

Seems that they have made such a simlpe thing that i wanted to know why he had a tempreture and what can i give him for it! I feel bad that this has happened over something simple that he had an ear infection hey!

I ring today finding out that they are not giving him antibiotic for the ear infection and that its all cleared up

How can understand that I have done the right thing fo him? I feel really bad over this. I need help because i feel that i have let him down by trying to do the right thing.

Help me!

Re: How can i understand that i did the right thing for Patrick?

It can be really hard, I took my son to the doctors because he seemed breathless, (he was 1), she said it was just viral, he got worse in the next few days so I took him to the hospital, he ended up on oxygen, antibiotics, and asthma medications for five days, my point is if  doctors cant know everything how can we? You did the best job you could at the time for your son.

Re: How can i understand that i did the right thing for Patrick?

You did the right thing, as high temp means infection most of the time and it could hav ebeen something more serious then an ear infection. When my son was2months old he developed a rash on his legs which was purple. He had no temperature, wasnt crying, was feeding fine and was having normal wet nappies. I still took him to the hospital and he had 5drips in his hands, i felt so bad. Then theyw anted to do a spinal tap but thankgod theyd idnt cos in the end it was just a viral infection that had to run its course.

You did the right thing. I feel bad that my son wa sonly 2months old having drips in his hands, but i would have felt alot worse if i stayed home and it was meningitis like they had suspected.

Dont feel bad in any way.

Your child was unwell and you sought help. Simple as that.

You might want to join and ask questions at the site I will list below. They are a tube feeidgn forum and can answer any and all your questions concerning tube feeding and Failure to Thrive (FTT) which is what I am assuming is the reason they placed the tube in his nose.

www.parent-2-parent.com

Minit mail me if you have any questions. Our son Jedd has had 3 diifernt types of tubes. You can see pictures of them on my page. I also wrote some advice about reflux that has quite a bit of tube feeidng info in it as well. Here is it....

Re: How can i understand that i did the right thing for Patrick?

There's no need to feel bad. Once I waited in a hospital for 6 hours because I thought my son was clogged up with constipation. Turns out he was fine and just being a sook. I felt really embarrassed and kept apologising to the doctor but he assured me when it comes to children's health they take everything very seriously and if I was ever concerned again in the future to bring him back to the hospital. He said I did the right thing because had it been severe, I would have come to the right place. It's their job to take children's health seriously and your job to feel proud that you did everything in your power to eliminate anything that can cause a potential threat to your child. You have succeeded and luckily it didn't turn out as bad as you thought. Good on you!

Re: How can i understand that i did the right thing for Patrick?

It can be scary when your child runs a high temp. My son did a couple of weeks ago, 103.6 and I called the doctor and they advised motrin and cool bath and just monitor it as there was nothing really to what is going around our town.  His temp did clear up after a few days but I so understand your worry and concern, don't worry you are doing a good job. My son is also a little underweight, again told not to worry about it as he is healthy otherwise. He eats when he is hungry, I sit him at the table with us and give him 10 mins to try to eat, if he doesn't than we will try later.
