Re: recipes for fussy 1 year old
Hi i study nutrition and have just completed infant - toddler nutrition i also have a 3 year old (my daughter is on a relatively strict mediterranean diet ie fish, vegetables, nuts she also wont eat meat, chicken without a huge struggle which is why she is on this self imposed diet - its a very good diet as it encourages a lot of fish which has huge benefits to children as well as adults is full of a variety of minerals, vitamins and omega oils which encourage brain development she has been on this diet since she was 1.
She mainly eats salmon however i dont recommend starting with this try a piece of white fish cooked in butter with a little all purpose spice etc for flavour or chicken salt
make things like kebab sticks with either plain steak or fruit kebabs with pieces of different melons, strawberries, apple etc which make them fun to eat
things in cube form and different shapes go well
always seperate food for a fussy child put peas with peas, carrots with carrots all in there own portions this is a proven way to help a child learn different foods and therefore if she is not keen on one thing it shouldnt deter her from eating the other bits if they have been mixed together (or touched the other food)
cheese cubs, carrot sticks, sultanas all on a snack plate in there own corners would be well at snack time or pieces of fruit cut up
try sausage most kids love it
dont use many sauces etc a 1 year old is only developing there taste buds
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY JUNK FOOD, my daughter was 2 when she had her first taste of cordial and a lollie why encourage them with bad stuff before they actually work out how good it tastes this can only lead to expensive dental bills, behavioural issues and obesity.
talk about the food before you give it, o yummy yellow cheese tell her it comes from cows etc, carrots are orange from the ground, encourage a keen interest in food with your baby. try to involve her in the preparation (obviously not the knife in hand but put her up on the bench whilst preparing healthy food and encourage her to try bits of different foods whilst preparing them this boosts interest and if she doesnt like it let her spit it out but try as hard as you can to encourage her to eat it. Eat it with her you take one bite then say your turn etc
dont use processed, prepackaged food etc where possible there are usually ways you can get around using bad foods.
I hope this helps!!!

Re: recipes for fussy 1 year old
Kiddies can be a total nightmare at this age with food due to tastebuds developing and the desire to throw it rather than eat it ;) Fish fingers are definately a hit, however mini muffins, pizza muffins, melted cheese on toast, omelets with chopped up ham and cheese in the middle, pikelets, Tuna patties - tuna, mashed potato and/or pumpkin/sweet potato with corn kernals and peas, add an egg to bind it all together, shape into little balls and fry. You can cover them in bread crumbs before frying if you want. Good way to hide veges too.
Strawberry Smoothies
2 cups strawberries
1 or 2 bananas
ice
1 cup milk
1 cup plain or vanilla yoghurt
sugar and/or icecream if you desire
Directions: chuck it all in the blender and puree
Pita Bread Chips
Pita bread cut into triangles
sprinkle with tasty cheese
Directions: cook in oven at 180 degrees for 15-20 mins or until crispy (if they're not crunchy they're just not as yummy)- more around the 14-18month mark though
Mini quiches ( a good way for meat and vegies), chicken nuggets.
Sweet Corn & Zucchini Fritters
Serves 5, can be frozen up to 3 months
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups self-raising flour, 1 cup milk, 2 eggs, 2 large corn cobs, kernels removed, 1 zucchini, trimmed, grated, olive oil, for shallow-frying, 1 cup tzatziki dip, to serve
Method
Sift flour into a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Using a fork, whisk milk and eggs together in a jug until combined. Pour over flour. Stir until smooth. Add corn and zucchini. Stir until well combined.
Add enough oil to a large, non-stick frying pan to cover base. Heat over medium heat until hot. Using 1/4 cup of mixture per fritter, spoon mixture, 3 fritters at a time, into pan. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes each side or until golden and firm to touch in the centre. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
Banana - Yoghurt Pops
2 bananas
2 oz plain yoghurt
1/4 cup milk (soy, rice, breast milk, whole milk)
Mash the bananas, mix with yoghurt, then add milk. Pour into moulds and freeze.
Summer Fruit Surprise
1/2 ripe nectarine
2 tbsp Robinson’s Summer Fruit Salad
4 tbsp hot water (previously boiled)
Peel nectarine, cut into cubes and simmer in water until tender. Push through sieve or puree and mix with Robinson’s Summer Fruit Salad and water. Serve warm or cold.
Handy Hint: - Substitute apple or pear for nectarine.
Hope these helped, a little.

Re: recipes for fussy 1 year old
Yes this age is really a fussy eater , and i know how hard it is for both mummy and baby to have his meal ...
one of my friends make this one to her toddler and he likes it alot you can try it, specially that he can catch it with him self (FISH FINGERS),
one piece of white fish cut into strips
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp of breadcrumbs
2 egg yolks beaten
dip the strips into egg and then flour, then egg again, and in the breadcrumbs, fry it until becoming gold. wish she likes it.

Re: recipes for fussy 1 year old
Yes, it is a fussy phase. Try fish sticks, raisins, any dry cereal, cheese in small cubes, carrots in tiny chunks, kiwi, any leftover meat cold cut in chunks, all kinds of meat warm or cold cut in chunks. They love to feed themselves so i always would put a variety and make it colorful and not to slippery. Cheese in chunks, ham, beef, any fruit. Good luck
