Re: breastfeeding and drinking
the only time i have even drunk alcohol whilst breastfeeding was after the very sad funeral of a 4 year old, whom i had nursed (at the pub with my colleagues). i skipped a feed and expressed and discarded the milk. other than this, i feel its safer to obstain from drinking during breastfeeding. I have heard that alcohol levels in breastmilk decrease at the same rate as blood alcohol levels, so if you drink, then wait until your blood alcohol is zero, then your breastmilk should be too. This is difficult to judge, as we all process alcohol differently and the size of the drink may vary as to how many standard drinks are in it. I am currently breastfeeding and I haven't drunk a drop of alcohol for about 2 years (although i was never a big drinker anyway, so no great loss). i do not want my baby poisoned with alcohol. its better to be safe than sorry and i personally don't think its worth it. by all means, go out and have a good time, but you don't need to drink to have fun.
