Re: DUMMYS!

I don't know how old your daughter is, but mine was 3.5 when we said enough's enough. We said 'my goodness, you're such a big girl now' (which she loved) and that she wouldn't be allowed to turn 4 with a dummy. (is that cruel?). We just put it in the bin. And she moaned about it for the first night - we gave her milk in bed to get her to sleep - and after that it was fine. Good luck!

Re: DUMMYS!

In general kids will give up their dummy when they are ready.  Just like any other obsession during life, it eventually has no place in their lives.

Meanwhile, if you are determined to assis the process, pick a time in the not to distant future like a birthday etc and make a big deal about this being the 'normal' time to give up the dummy.  Possibly fix on an 'exchange program' whereby they 'trade in' their dummy for something else they really want or is age appropriate.

either way, best of luck

Re: DUMMYS!

In the end with ours, we just took it and ignored them asking for it.  That was after months of hiding it during the day.

Actually, them totally giving it up happened by accident.  We had been out quite late (for each little sucker) and by the time we got home, they were soooo tired, they didn't evcn ask for it, so we never gave it to them again.

Re: DUMMYS!

Dummies are hard to get rid of.  I'm in the slow process of getting mine of my son at the moment. He's 2. we trade it in the morning for his milk, and whenever he asks for it I tell him it's sleeping.  He's still allowed to have it when he goes to bed, but I take it away from him once he gets up.  I have to hide them because he gets his older brother to look for them.

I decided to do the days first and once he's ok with that he still asks, then I'll work on the nights which I know will be very hard, I'm still holdingout hope he'll just give them up.

However you decided to go about it, you just have to be consistant once you take it away stick to it, no matter how much they cry.
